  1. Definetely a 'Show Stopper'. The next project will need to be a cabinet to house the trophies and cups you're going to win! Well done!, a beautifull machine.
  2. Thanks Norm, they're used for spread pattern adjustment on gritters, 5 wires, two for motor, 3three for feedback potentiometer for positioning, they are usually scrapped because the pot fails,I should have some 'spares', if you want to 'experiment', pm me your address and I'll send you one to play with. force is 2000n, but that is at 24v. I've just ordered a dc-dc converter from Hong Kong, this is a 12v to 24v step up, it may give a bit more power and speed, we'll see, only a tenner post free. I may even try two batteries on the front as weights, why add dead weight when it could be doing something useful? This one pulled around 3amps no load on the hitch, and around 7amps with me standing on the hitch. You can buy 12v ones, but quite expensive.
  3. Took my cultivator to the horse paddocks to break down some rutted ground from last winter, working fine until the link (m8 threaded bar) snapped. took her to pieces and decided to try something different. A 24v linear actuator, -recycled- coupled to the hitch and drawbar proved it could lift the cultivator at 12v. (also me) I removed the rockshaft, homemade, and the unit fitted under the seat with room to spare. A couple of lugs welded to the crosspiece, an extension to the 'ram' and it worked! I may add some braces from the crosspiece to the axle, but the whole lot is already stiffened by the fender raising frame added to gain clearance for the tyres. Tried it today with the discs, the ground was a bit hard, then I realised I need to change the temporary extension for one with a slot to allow the implements to 'float'. I coudn't find a dpdt switch so I knocked up a unit using a 're-cycled' joystick and three 5pin relays as a polarity reverser, the joystick has a mag-mount so It can be fitted wherever it works best, there is a button on top of the stick which has to be pressed before the other controls will operate. I may fit another actuator to the front to pic up my front weight, this is made from a number of 'flitch' (I think they are called), plates, again re-cycled, each one weighs 1.8kg. the toolbox fits to the hood grill using a couple of 'anti luce' catches, on and off in seconds, plus adds a bit more front end weight. I may try changing the Linak motor for a hydraulic cylinder as the next stage in the experiment, cylinders are no problem, and I also have an ex- mini-bus wheelchair tail-lift electro-hydraulic unit that should fit under the hood. Two one horsepower units.
  4. Paint one of his, whilst he's away at work!
  5. It's not called "scrap" now Ian, the term is "previously enjoyed"
  6. "A show winner",You'll soon be making dad jealous.
  7. Well done Norm, Although you'll probably now be sued for assault ! We get these calls quite frequently, They start off saying their from Windows, but when questioned, "Windows what ?", they seem confused, Jane usually lets them go through their spiel, then says "this is strange, I don't have a computer!" My favorite is " This is D.C. (my initials) Hall, Cambridgeshire I.T. Fraud Squad, can I ask to whom I'm speaking?", the response is invariably "CLICK" as they hang up.
  8. I believe the manual for the older models calls for ep90, but other sources say not, because of the bronze final drive. they recommend sae 90, apparently synthetic gear oil doesn't contain sulfur, so is safe in units containing "yellow metal" components. The post 2014 "powersafe" units use hydraulic oil. Google BCS, you can find manuals, parts books, etc, you can download.
  9. A nice bit of kit there, I've got a couple of BCS 603's both with briggs v twin engines, if you use top gear, you'll certainly keep fit keeping up with it. They have a weak point, what ever you do, don't engage the pto drive without using the clutch, it rounds off the corners of the drive teeth and the pto will keep dropping out. I don't have a 'sickle' bar for mine, just a 30" rotary deck that will cut anything, a flail head and a 4" chipper. using a sickle bar cutter on long grass, you could bale it for hay, the round bale attachment only costs around £10 1/2 K
  10. A better use for the gas bottle Chris, slit it in half longways, hinge the two halves, like a barbecue, mount it on an axle, like a bowser, fill it with ice and water, ( and Desperadoes ) and tow it behind your four wheel trailer at shows. Seats in the four wheeler and a sun shade, and your all set up for watching the displays in the rings. ps. better still, Barbecue one end, Desperado cooler the other.
  11. Looking fantastic Chris! In the last photo, If You fit a "Lazy Susan" turntable to your bird bath, it would make your painting sessions easier

  19. cut 3 triangles out of the end of the pole, base of the triangle at the end, and bash the points left on the pole together with a blob of weld to hold them.
  20. Looking too good to use now Ian, In photo one, is that your new spray gun on the wall behind the chassis? good things they are, Jane uses one to creosote the stables.
