  1. Was It made by your wife Paul?
  2. You're right Chris, it's a Bolens. Mind you I had to look at it twice to pick it out. Nevertheless, a very nice conversion.
  3. In between decorating and allowing the paint to dry, I had a bit of time and I found a photo of a 1054 with the push/ pull levers. This is a 1254 photos with the push/ pull levers. Interestingly the dash has the wood grain effect style. I am sure mine is Matt black. I am guessing both are early examples.
  4. Very interesting. Look like our respective theories were on the right track. I checked through my photos of my 1254 and it's a 1254-05 making it a '72 model as you suggested. Be interesting to see if the earlier ones had the old style levers.
  5. [quote. Andrew, if your 1254 is a 1254-01 then it is 1971, all other versions were 1972 Iain I will have to check the serial # when I get it back from Daniel. It could be an 1254-05 from memory but I will check.
  6. I just edited my post Iain which confirms your and mine theory.
  7. My 1254 got up and down controls and it's the same age as your tractor I think. Mine a '71 I think. In fact when I ordered the new controls for the 1254, Bolens1000 off GTT wanted confirmation of the year which suggests that there may have been a change around in the early 70s. I just looked at my 850 (made in 1965) and that got the push/ pull levers. Be interested to know what you find out Iain.
  8. Go on; paint it yellow and say you got two CCs.....

  12. Iain is a true Bolens enthusiast; he hired a Bolens White van.
  13. Glad to see it got to you safely. As you know I saw it at John's place last summer and it was up and running very well. The Bolens pushed a trailer connected to the front hitch and manoeuvred it with my wheelweights and round back tiller on it with ease to my car. I got a video of it on my mobile which I will post on to you. Another good find Iain and another saved too especially from Chris aka The Showman who unnerved me totally by saying it was a WheelHorse...... Poor old fella obviously confused by the fact it was painted red and of course it is running as well! Plus the fact he been desperate to find a working WheelHorse at John's place.

    Bolens 850

When I popped into seeing Chris this afternoon. I set eyes on my latest Bolens, the 850, for the first time. I can't wait to get it back to my place some time to give it a damn good clean with a pressure washer and to carry out a light recommissioning of the old girl. Hopefully Chris will get the old engine fired up. Again, I am struck by how well made these Tube Frames are .
  21. Good to see the Bolens safely collected. Look like Iain got a lot more stuff from John's stash!

    Bolens HT23

I believe so but it's tax free but got to be road legal with lights. You need proof of when it was built by getting the serial# verified.

    Bolens HT23

I popped into Chris this afternoon and saw his latest acquisition, the HT23. What a cracking looking garden tractor; I want one! Also had a good snoop around his collection of Bolens and saw my 850 as well. The only downside is that I need to get more Bolens I got an 1886 coming so that should quench my thirst...
