Slow progress today, after a struggle to get the brake pulley off and then hours with a drill and an assortment of wire brushes to remove all the rust and paint.
I finally got it done and gave it a coat of primer outside in the sunshine.
Today’s activity was to remove the steering wheels from the column, anyone that has removed steering wheels from wheelhorses will know the problems with the roll pin removal and the wheel so with lots of banging several sessions of heat and cursing they gave in.
Well I’ve sanded the few coats of paint and rust of the transmission now ive got the pulleys off and ordered a set of oil seals from Bearingboys, they are so helpful and should have them Tuesday or Wednesday.
Ive put a few coats of primer on just to protect it while I’m putting them together.
The fist hub came off fairly easy with the puller and a bit of heat, the second one made a fight of it after soaking it with wd 40 for a couple of days and with the puller attached and loads of heat it broke so out with the grinder and cut it off.
2nd oops was the drive pulley that also refused to move so after checking i had a spare in stock i had to chop it off.
Thought I’d have a look at one of the transmissions.
First job was to cut off the tow hitch and drill out the 3/4 pin as it was rusted solid.
The brake lining was missing and the band is gonna need replacing once I got the brake pulley off i found the lining.
The hubs were solid as well, I managed to get one off with a puller but the second one wasn’t gonna move although I soaked it and heated it up it broke !
Looking at the chassis this afternoon and noticed a few differences, The 3/4 rod that holds the pedals is 3 inches short, the idler pulley bracket is at the wrong angle, the small flat plate that rubs on the belt is wrong, the tags that hold the belt cover on are in the wrong place and holes in the wrong place
I think I’ve sorted now, I’m not putting the bendy bit on the pedal bar as i think its for the drive belt to the deck and I’ve only got one deck.If you look at the photos you can see what I’ve done.
Been messing around with the front end and would like your comments please.
Im not a lover of the 4 inch wheels so want to swop them for 8 inch but I’ve enough stuff to make two trikes, if i fit the 8 inch wheels I’m going to use the original narrow front axle, the trike setup looks a bit high but will be 4 inches lower when fitted.
