    Ploughing and ploughs 2015

Hi all Starting to put together some hints for all interested in ploughing for fun Here is what we should aim for The Gutbrod and others rear wheels can been adjusted to suit but others you have to put a slimmer tyre on the back or use spacers but it is important before we go any further that this can be achieved The plough must be parallel with the ground the tip of the ploughshare and the heel of the plough must be on the ground with a hollow in-between to create what is called suck I will take a pic of this to give you an idea Hope you can follow me so far Thanks George S

    Bolens Sleeve Hitch

For you guys with a Bolens tube frame that would be interested, here are plans/dimensions for fabricating your own sleeve hitch. Given the cost of shipping from the US, it would probably be very cost effective to make your own, or have it made for you. Bolens Sleeve Hitch Dimensions.pdf

    JCB Beaver Hydraulic Power Pack.

Whilst moving some more junk out of the one unit today I came across a very reasonable recoil badge. Thought I was never going to find one! I also about a week ago spotted some new take off genuine fuel tanks on ebay (fitted to generator that had a long life tank built into the frame probably) so for twenty quid bought it. Finally today it arrived. After regrinding the valves, I have refitted the cylinder head and started to sort out the exhaust. The original one was beyond salvaging, holed, tatty and missing the spark arrestor. Where as later type exhausts are easy to obtain, and cheap ( if you go the Chinese route), early ones are almost extinct. This is where my store comes in handy. There was one left, the chrome cover was a bit battered, and after beating it back into shape it looked ok, but I am a bit of a fussy bugger so found a company that still has some new covers in stock ( £50 ouch!), hopefully they will arrive tomorrow. Also I managed to find a better oil alert switch. At long last though the Honda is starting to look like an engine again.

When you look at the Brinly, for someone with access to a profile cutter, copies shouldn't be to hard to make.

    Ransomes Whitlock WR8 Loader

Waiting for the clutch I decided to refurb the engine bay and clean up the engine, in the process I discovered some nasty stress cracks in the body at the point where the main lift rams are bolted to the body. Any worse and the arms could have ripped off! I drilled the crack ends to stop the stress line, ground out a deep vee and then welded first from one side and then repeated the process on the other side. All better now and sprayed up with primer. I also found tha the diesel tank was full of pinholes that had been filled with Isopon, hopefully I will have a new one before Malvern but if not I will have to solder up the old one.

    Mold Board Plough

Andrew, Great news that you have bought the plough. I found a picture of my Brinley plough which may help identify the changes that have been done to yours. Maybe we can both go to Scotland to learn about this ploughing stuff.

    Rejuvenating my Bolens Tiller

I do like the round hood Bolens firstmost followed closely by the Ride a Matics models. Actually to be honest I like all the Bolens tractors! I have forgotten that the 600 is the smaller one and having it own set of implements. I would like to get a RAM tractor first if I could but need to sort out the storage plus putting some cash aside. As for Gentlemen's Agreement, awfully nice of you to let me have first dibs ..........

Hi all just a quick update I've got it home now , I'm going thru it all the workings of the tractor and I'm quite impressed with what it has , more of that to come along with pictures I've being looking for a replacement engine for it , it should have a three cylinder kubota engine around 20 hp but they are like hens teeth to find a good one at the right money . As the tractor takes it's drive thru a little prop shaft fitted to the crank pulley I could fit any engine into it ( with in reason ) , so I've been offered a very modern 4 cylinder jcb Perkins mini digger engine at the right price so I'm gonna measure it and see if it will fit in the engine bay etc more pictures to come !
