    HVC Ploughing Match. 2015.

Today has been the Hethersgill Vintage Club annual ploughing match. The weather was ideal, with sunshine all day, though a cold frosty start, I was there in my usual capacity of, gateman, entrants and spectator vehicle parking and chief dogs body. I did get chance to take some photo's. And the real stars.

    Farmers Boy Minorette Rotavator?

Hello All, I don't visit this section of the forum as much as I do some of the others, but It appears now I can contribute, I now own a 'Pedestrian Operated Machine' This morning I went to Ardingly Collective Sale to have a look about, It's the first time I've ever been and I'm pleased I did. I saw Chris and Paul a few times throughout the day, I'm not too sure if they managed to get anything, there was a wheel horse commando 7 up for auction but I don't know if either of them two got it or not... I'm sure they will tell us soon enough! I managed to get my self another small project, Its only what I can assume to be a Farmers Boy Minorette I've done a little research and it seems to match the ones I have been finding, If anybody knows anything or has any information on these machines, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share it with me I only paid £21.80 £1.80 of that was buyers premium etc, so I was chuffed that I can now grow my collection get this restored and have it as a show piece, and maybe even work it from time to time... Its nice to have something different from ride on's all the time,

    Starting them young.

Over the last 13 months my nephew has been (mucking in) well sitting watching, he loves sitting and watching anything to do with machinery, he used to love sitting in this walker in front of his favorite machine which was the Lister D Type engine, now hes out of his walker, he likes to sit on the machines and have a poke and a prod, and if i have the machines out when he comes over he can have a ride on my lap, today he tried out his seat I got him a while back, (never actually drove with it today) hes still a bit young for that sort of thing, but i think he approved of it, lets hope one day he has a collection of his own, do any of you have sons, daughters, or family members of a young age that enjoy this sort of thing?

    Kohler M16S rebuild

Been a busy week, managed an hour though... Rebuilt the starter, though I think it's brand new anyway - so it just needed a blow through with the air line. Cleaned up the fuel pump, and rebuilt and cleaned the breather which was full of silicon!!! morons, a gasket costs a few quid and it was full of bathroom silicon!!!! Before I strip the cowl as it's got hammer rash, that's why it has a new starter... I took the liberty of making out a very vague serial number and printing a few new decals.

Nice looking machine. Walk behinds are cool things to own but they are definitely hard work, well compared to ride ons they are I have quite a few barford atoms which are similar and are definitely cool machines to own. Personally I wouldnt respray it, I would definitely keep it original. Let us know if you get it. Tom

Yes I'm stuck with my one for looks, do i paint it or just give it an oily rag wipe over. I'm sure the others will see this soon enough and someone will know what they are talking about and be able to share opinions, but thats how i felt once buying mine, its nice to be able to research and play about with something different from garden tractors all the time.

New addition - Wheel horse 312-8

I'm sure you guys know I like pictures so here are a few more for you! Hauling some wood for the fire: After a quick wash: I also got the deck out for a wash: After it had been washed and oiled: I'm still unsure whether to put the deck away in storage or sell it, I will never use it... Tom

I think, its the same one i saw that on that auction site? It looks good, I've only just got my first walk behind machine. I know I have only had it a day, but I quite enjoy seeing it in my collection, I might try get a few more walk behind machines, I'd say go for it! its all a bit of fun, Im not too sure on the make or the model but the fact its got a sickle bar is real neat

Nice machine Charlie, is it a 60's model?. Can't quite make out the Briggs Engine Decal style to get a date period. For some reason, my eyes are drawn to the solid tyres .......and think of my Mower

You shouldn't feel that way, most of us learn about what we're restoring as we go along. The good thing is that much of the old/vintage or classic American made machinery has loads of databases, parts lists and manuals still available to learn from. That's why I like them. Sadly there isn't so much of that now, or it's hard to track down in the UK. The Decals really finish it off and do the Engine justice. Also like the woven sheathing on the HT Lead.
