Managed to find enough motivation today to make my way out to the workshop. Preheated the room and managed to get a coat on the floor which dried fairly quickly. For the next part i had to call in my father to give me a hand to cut in the walls and floor so i could concentrate on rolling on the paint before it started to go off as it was two pack. Still another coat to go on the walls tomorrow hopefully, and then a red band to break up the blue and white.

I bought another Bolens, this time a 850 with a deck from Hampshire. Date yet to be verified but it from the mid to late 60s. I was particularly attracted to the go faster blue stripe on the bonnet. Also it's nice to have a different front decal of the Husky Man and not the Husky Dog on the front. The engine require some pistons and hopefully it will be up and running again. Thanks to Chris for collecting it and storing it.

And here it is now that the restoration is almost finished. It had been semi restored a few years ago, but stored badly. I believe the engine is about 75 cc two stroke,Ive had the engine fully rebuilt by an ex Wacker employee that I know. They were originally a JLO engine that Wacker purchased the rights to. Still has its original wire rope recoil,can a bit lethal if it kicks back.

A bit more progress today, fitted the rebuilt brake bands, gearbox cover and steering levers and then struck a problem, when I was dismantling the tractor the one thing that needed extreme force to remove was the gear lever, I had not realised that the threaded part of the lever shaft has been mushroomed by the force of the puller I used to remove the lever off the taper and keyway, try as I might I could not get the nut to fit back on and unfortunately I do not have a 9/16" 20 tpi thread die, I filed at it with a thread file and fortunately I did have some spare nuts so using grinding paste and hacksaw cuts in a spare nut I eventually managed to restore a thread and get the nut back on but that was three hours later!

SWMBO has been busy knitting hats for the tribe for Christmas.

This is my 850 which I also brought last week from fellow forum member Tom. At least its the correct colour but needs TLC. The dyno start is missing but as Andrews engine is broken I will just use his

Hi All Picked up this sprayer today Sunday and because the Forth road bridge is closed until further notice it was a round trip of 221 miles In very small writing on the lance says Four Oaks do I assume the sprayer is the same,the pump is made of brass and has wood paddles inside the tank the hose is aright can anyone date this for me and have any paper work

Hi guys today the Fife plooman and me picked up some new exhibits for 2016 I think he has got his sprayer on here already well here is my new toy i like it hope you do I havent seen any up here like this before I know it is a mk1 allen mower but i havent seen those type of handles on them

It might be worth seeing if the blue paint will T cut off Andrew rather than a full repaint..

Hi All Update on my sprayer it is a four oaks challenge sprayer Here are some more pictures seems well made still not tracked down a date yet

The Bolens 850 was made the same four years as the Bolens 1050, 1966 to 1969. The Husky Man was featured during these years and up until around 1971-72 when the Husky Dog came around, the Husky Dog may have also ushered in the Black and White tractors. The 850 and 1050 started out White in 1966 but as each year progressed they got a little less White, no one knows why and most people did not notice, but if they were sitting side by side at a dealership you could tell which ones were the newer model year. The model designation was the 191-01 in 1966 and in 1967 changes made to the tractor made it a 191-02, no other model changes in 1968 or 1969 other than the hood and fender color so the tractor ended the run in 1969 as a 191-02. The engine was a 8.25 horsepower Wisconsin S-8D and came standard with electric start, but lights were an option. The drive train was a 3 speed and featured that a Hi-Low option with a locking differential on the outside left axle. It is important to note that most all first year tractors, big and small alike (and automobiles) started production at least three months and sometimes as many as six months prior to the model year. Meaning that a the low serial number 1966 model 191-01 Bolens 850 was likely made in the summer or fall of 1965.

Made further progress today , Lift fitted, one final drive, floor board mount and drawbar. all final painted.

A bit more progress made on the workshop. 8 double sockets wired and working, same on opposite walls. 2 x 5ft double fluorescent lights with 2 10w LED flood lights for over the work-bench. Got about half of the insulation board up so far. To do list - finish ceiling, paint walls white, paint bottom of wall dark grey, paint floor, build work-bench and install some type of heating, then sit down and have a rest ! Noel.
