    Big Tap Wrench

I always find the Christmas Eve rather boring considering I no longer believe in Santa😮 (no presents for me this year😳) so I decided to venture out into the workshop and make something! Going back to work on the 7th so need to keep myself occupied for two weeks, that is in between going to the pub! So probably not the only tool to be made over the festive period. Wanted to make something usable so made large tap wrench to cater for some of the bigger taps in my collection although it's still not big enough for the largest ones! So after some Turning, milling, knurling and threading, this is what I came up with.

    A dirty day

But a dry one too... The rain eased and I decided to have an hour ronking around on bendy. I really started to enjoy myself, chewing up the grass and getting muddy. Then this I over did things and the front three point mount got snagged, Only one thing for it, C4 to the rescue And courtesy of two go pros, here's some cut down footage.

looking great paul you need to pull it outside for a full photo shoot now to realy show it off, cos you would be hard pushed to find a better one but what you realy need is another one in oily rag condition to put next to it at the shows, it just so happens ....

    New Tractor Workshop

Got a start made on a new work bench today. Three inch angle iron for legs and three building planks. Had to scribe the first plank to the wall as it was a bit wobbly. Still need to get some 2mm sheet folded up to go on top of the planks, make a shelf for underneath and mount the vice.

    Sprayer at Newark

I saw a couple of lads wheeling this sprayer and had a chat with them, It's a Drake & Fletcher Mistifier, made in Maidstone, Kent. They bought it in the bring and buy sale.

On mine the entire axle is pulling out of the case. The bushing, bearing, and C clip have failed letting the axle retreat to the west and possibly fall out if run to far or in circles to the left. One your hydro check the linkage and see if its charging completely forward and retreating fully in reverse, get it up off the ground and watch and see if the linkage has full travel in the slot and that it hits neutral detent area and the wheels stop moving. If in the neutral position the wheels turn either forward or reverse the linkage needs adjustment, this could cause the tractor not to have full power. Check the filter and see if it is correct filter for the tractor, sometimes people inadvertently buy filters for crankcase oil and not transmission fluid, the transmission filters not only have a small micron rating, but are different inside to insure proper flow. If you have never changed the fluid and filter I urge you to do so, using the proper parts.

    Wheel Horse D160 engine swap

I have the 4.00-8 tri-ribs on several of my medium size tractors like the 1556 and Allis 416. they are really good at tracking a furrow and turning in loose dirt, but it has been difficult to find good rear AG tyres, some like the Deestone and their like are low ply, low lug height, and wide lug spacing, and while this does give improved traction, tyres like this almost need chains, especially in adverse weather conditions like you blokes often have over there, Mark and Bendy come to mind. The 27x7.5-12 Interco Interforce will fit under some medium size tractors, but not all, The Maxxis Ceros or Duro Frontiers maybe the best all around tyre, but would work better in narrower widths for ploughing and wider widths for mowing or yard work. I can't find the ITP 589s anymore, but they do sell a ITP 489 that is far less money and still a great AG. The ATV tires while not very original looking provide excellent traction and a lower price than most reproduction GT AG tyres due to mass production cost savings. In the end to each his own and what he or his wife can afford.

    Cub Cadet 70

As some of you may have seen as my dad posted some pictures. I picked up a cub cadet 70 the other day with all the original manuals and number plates, here's the pictures of when it arrived. My fully restored Wheel Horse C-121 had to go to pay for my new project. These are the manuals that came with it and also the leaflets from the dealer in Cleckhuddersfax.

I may be wrong, but compared to you guys over there in the States, we don't have the range of quality tyres for garden tractors readily available over here.

Was the carb used on any other small engines? Can you cross reference the engine to another machine? Good Luck

    JCB Solite Hydraulic Power Pack.

I did hope to finally have this running over christmas, However I have hit a snag in that the valve block won't clear the return pipe so I need a special coupling that I don't have so will now have to wait until the supplier goes back in January.

    Wheel Horse D160 engine swap

I can't wait to get the tri ribs on my Bolens 1254 as I got a set of Agri tyres on the rear. As you say Alain, I will be hoping to use the 1254 to plough and till the soil hence the tyre set up.

    Wheel Horse D160 engine swap

The tri-ribs being on a 10" rim, not an 8", makes them 20.5" tall versus the 16" tall 16x6.50-8 or 4.00-8 tire. Considering that half of that 4" is split between the top and bottom, that lifts the front of the tractor a little over 2", and it will need it, the 30x10-12 Intercos being 30" tall are 4" taller than the standard 26x12-12 which raises the rear of the tractor 2". This ground clearance will really help in farm chores such as ploughing, discing, or tilling. If you have noticed our little tractors, more so the bigger tractors like the D, they really sit low to the ground during ploughing duties and can get lost discing or tilling a freshly plowed field. In contrast take a small tractor like the Holder or Gutbrod, they sit higher of the ground , because they were primarily designed as a ground engaging machine that could mow, not visa versa

    Panther 101 Hydraulic Power Pack.

I had a local firm make the decals for my other power packs , and was very pleased with the end results. However after getting pi*%^d about scince July with the ones for this machine I have resorted to making them myself using off the shelf labels. Just waiting for the Panther animal sticker to come in from the states and have got to get a fine needle to pierce the couple of air bubbles.

Finaly managed to get this saw finished today. Had to resort to a later spec air filter cover as I cant find an original type one anywhere at the moment. Started 3rd pull and after a bit of minor adjustment runs quite well.

    New Tractor Workshop

You need to make sure your floor is oil free or the paint wont stick to it, also, if the floor has been power floated to a smooth finish you will need to scrabble it to allow the paint to key. If your new to painting floors, remember to thin the first coat quite a bit to allow it to soak into the concrete. Should be the consistency of full fat milk. If its standard floor paint you will use white spirit, if its two pack use cellulose thinners.

the best bit is today i returned the float and jet back and got £50 refund thats a right result cos it had been a special order from germany, so the main jet and bowl gaskit only owes us £36 which we can live with
  39. 1 point
Nope Part of the problem as we found yesterday was the new float was too tall, which meant when the float went up it bottomed out on the carb body before shutting off the fuel! Once the old float and jet went back in the flooding stopped. One thing that was really bugging me was why the spark was so weak at the plug until the ignition was turned off when it produced a nice fat bright spark just the once! This got me thinking, so I did a little research.. And found an external condenser on a car engine is wired onto the positive side of the coil, where as small engines say a Kohler or a Mag the condenser is wired onto the negitive side of the coil... No prizes for guess which way we had it wired Soooo... armed with a condenser wired in the right way, and also the base jet settings for the Bing carb the engine was soon brought to life Of course all this happened before Nigel had turned up, so I carefully timed it that just as Nigel was pulling in I was driving Horse Gut out the workshop!! The look on Nigels face was priceless.. At first he thought I was driving the Cammo 8 without a bonnet, until he noticed I was driving past the Cammo 8 which did still have it's bonnet on! Picture a look of confused/think your seeing things/disbelief all rolled into one which after a minute gave way to a big grin You have indeed

    New Tractor Workshop

Managed to find enough motivation today to make my way out to the workshop. Preheated the room and managed to get a coat on the floor which dried fairly quickly. For the next part i had to call in my father to give me a hand to cut in the walls and floor so i could concentrate on rolling on the paint before it started to go off as it was two pack. Still another coat to go on the walls tomorrow hopefully, and then a red band to break up the blue and white.
