Project "Why Not"

I'm sure some dirt will make a guest appearance at some point Norm A bit of an update for you chaps.. The braking system has been cleaned up and painted.. Here's the two master cylinders... The brake calipers and mountings got the same treatment. I still need to bleed the air out the system, always a fun job with lot's of fresh paint nearby! The headlamp blanking plate was rubbed down, repainted, mud somehow stuck in the fresh paint, left to dry, rubbed down yet again and repainted again! For some reason this small panel has been the most troublesome paint wise and as you can see it's still not looking great! The white on the steering wheel center had faded quite a bit, so I gave it a careful repaint in IH white... I don't want the gloss look so the white will be very carefully flattened back to take the shine away. Today was bled the brakes day.. The rears which were empty of brake fluid bled really easy, which was nice.... The fronts for some reason just didn't want to let fluid through! Lot's of faffing about including checking the calipers were actually working (they were) produced almost no brake pressure! So... I moved the master cylinder up in line with the rear cylinder to give it more pedal leverage..... Now the front brakes work really well Oh... And this happened today -

I'm getting lots done now that I've finished school The engine has been mostly reassembled now The hood that was ready for the scrap bin has been patched up the best we could, at least there is metal there now, with a bit of filler it should look ok. With thanks to the warm weather today I got lots more painting done and some parts got reassembled -

1 pointI bought this a couple of years ago off eathen (veggie kevs son ) then sold it to the nursery, anyway today I bought it back, and it's likely to be mine and Ian's next winter project, we will defently be loosing the chassis and adding a wheel, I haven't a clue what it will be or look like, but ime sure when Ian and I put our heads together it will be some thing a bit weird

1 pointHi, I picked up an Allen Scythe over the weekend and thought I would do some research on dating it but I seem to be getting conflicting information. Sorry I cant load any pictures, since I updated to windows 10 I cant get pictures from my camera to my PC, ( anyway thats another story ) My Allen is machine No. R25418 on a brass plaque on the alloy cooling duct on what I believe to be a Villiers 11c engine. The "R" before the number should mean ratchet hubs but it doesnt have ratchet hubs, from what I can find the machine no. dates it roughly to 1947 but after 1943 they were supposed to have a Villiers Mk25c. Also it has brass handlebar ends but these were supposed to be out of use after the Mk2. Have I bought a bitsa or is everything I read on the internet wrong? So in summery machine no. R25418, Villiers 11c engine, no ratchet hubs and brass handlebar ends also it has a cable operated clutch. Can anyone give me an idea of the date please.

Tool it for a test drive. Good fun. Need a brake cylinder and also brakes themselves need looking at. Need a decent fuel tank. Other than that it looks all together (except the cutters) Have hight hopes for it already. Nice set or rear tractor tyres, original tractor seat, painted up in yellow and white possibly. Not bad for £160. Happy days! -
1 pointNice work Ewan, the paint looks great

Nice bit of ploughing there, Henry. Similar combination to what is up at the farm. Though I think the plough is only 4 furrow. -

1 pointSplit the gearbox this morning. Not a pretty sight. A good layer of black sludge in the bottom. Gears and drive shafts covered in a layer of rust. Main bearings rough. I did manage to free the selectors and get three gears. So I reckon it's a total rebuild, with my metric conversion like the C-121. Not going to happen methinks. A visit to a friend today has produce some interesting parts, that with another engine I have, will make a fun special.

Project "Why Not"
diggerjames reacted to Ian for a post in a topic
Thanks Chris, it sure has been a lot of work but worth it.. Nigel painted those parts Paul Thanks James, I've been thinking about the next project for a while now Just when I thought I had finished with the red paint I found a rather large deep scratch in the freshly painted fender pan on Monday!! But somehow with some careful wet n dry work and some more paint the scratch vanished.. The wheels had got chipped with all the test driving so the paint was flattened back.... Here's the rears.. One front and two rears after a fresh coat of International Harvester White.... In a week or so they will be pin striped -
1 pointCouple photo's of one of our resident mallard families. Originally 12 ducklings. These four have survived cats, crows and magpies. There is another family, with at the last, count seven ducklings. Finally, SWMBO and number two grandson arrived home on Friday with Timothy.

1 pointThe finished article. Couple of mods to do, sometime in the future. A better towing eye and a plate for the weights to sit on.
