    Cub Cadet 70 restoration

Lots is going on in the run up to my first show of the year. The bonnet has been sandblasted There was quite a few rust pits hence all of the filler Trackrods have been added and stainless steel nuts and bolts have now replaced the old. Back on all four Hoodstand back on with the new decal The front grill, wiring loom and decal now in place The new light switch that I turned from a photo of the original to match what was on the tractor. Nearly there now, just got the seat, fenders, bonnet and then a few little pieces but I'm very happy with it!

You have plenty spare wheels Chris, and that long narrow chassis frame is still in John's barn. No excuses, get cracking.

You could load it in the van with a tractor sat on it, so it wouldn't take up too much more room in the van

The 1254 is the first Bolens I ever bought and I owed it to the old girl to get her up and running. My mate, Daniel, offered his services to get her going. He made up a new loom a while back and thanks to Rick I bought a fuel tank off him and from Brian some belts and coil. Another contact in the States, Alain, sourced me a set of stators. I am really chuffed to hear that it is up and running, albiet briefly. Daniel informed me that "The head gasket is leaking oil out and over the exhaust manifold, i suppose this is good and bad, good that the oil is circulating the engine, but possible the rings are gone for there to be oil above the piston? The carb isn't leaking on the joint as bad but i have been turning the fuel tap off so it may do if left long enough, it is dribbling past the float, and from the adjustment screw, but nothing to loose sleep over."

Thanks for your input sten, ive been looking at them for a while and not used one yet. I didn't want to get a smaller one and find I cant get my carbs ect in it, although its 6 litres I think it holds about 5. its a learning curve for me so will update when it arrives and ive tried it out

Something to think about before you buy one, I use mine mainly for cleaning a single carb but even though they have a built in heater it is a bit slow so I fill mine from the kettle, trouble is it needs 3 kettles full to cover the carb, not a big problem but frustrating when you just want to get it set up, so a smaller one would have probably suited me better, except when I put my bike carbs in it, not big enough for a bank of 4 carbs and you don't really want to be separating them. So ideally I need a smaller one and a bigger one but that's not going to happen. I still haven't tried carb cleaner, I just use washing up liquid.

Ive just bought one, delivered today. First impressions are quite good cleaning a couple of carbs but it didnt shift the thicker grime tucked away in crevises but scrape the thick off and ok, also the heat softens the paint so that comes away easier, ok if you want the paint off.
