    AN OLD RESTORATION

Restored this BMB PRESIDENT about 40 years ago. Member Paul on MoM who has one was interested in seeing photo's so I dug out my old prints and did a few quick copy's. Towed it back to friend John's place with either a David Brown or the recently departed B450 along with a trailer load of bits and pieces. The people in blue weren't too fussy in those days. Kept to the back roads anyway. Not too much wrong apart from paint. Didn't take long to get it running and have a play. Then dismantled, cleaned and repainted. Don't remember the make of paint but all brushed. No facility for spraying. Whatever it was was good quality, same with the brushes. Think I applied 3 top coats to get a good deep finish. All the lettering was done with water slide transfers. 1/8" and 1/4" high letters applied individually. The other parts were cut from sheet. Cannot remember though how I did the PRESIDENT. Might have been cut out letters etc or just painted. No Titch or Mark in those days. Drove it to a few early local shows and did a garden leveling job with a scraper blade mounted on the rear hydraulic arms. Worked well. After a period of standing idle it was sold. Not seen since. The last photo shows me in my streamlined form and before my hair faded.

    Hako D522 diesel tractor

So I picked this up at Malvern yesterday. I bought it as I have never seen another one, it is German and powered by a JLO Diesel engine which is 2 stroke. This is an interesting set up and looks to be original apart from the alternator. From what I understand it is a vineyard tractor and this would explain the very tight turning circle. Has hydraulics and also an extra valve at the back which I have never seen on another tractor to perhaps power something like a log splitter? I have not been able to get it started yet, but looks promising as there is some smoke coming out of the exhaust, I think I need to investigate the glow plug. Any information would be appreciated on the tractor or the engine as I can find very limited information and mainly in German. Harry

    Gardenmaster 34

Ordered up some 4mm rubber sheet to remake the soil flap at the rear of the rotor cover. Once cut and fitted, I placed the cover back on the machine....

    Gardenmaster 34

Overhauled the drive and rotor unit at the front. Washed out the dirty oil and water in the parts washer..... Dried it out with the airline and refilled with EP free sae80 gear oil....... Then attached to rest of the machine.

Had a doubt about the crank bearings in the little JAP, so bought new ones along with seals to be satisfied there would be no problems later. Got it all back together and fitted to the frame of the Gardenmaster.....

    Helicopter

Anybody interested in one of the helicopters that were available with a glow version of an O&R? Very uncommon and were pricey in the day.

    Wheel weights

Picked up a couple of rear wheel weights from a friend, they are about 50 lbs each and should help with traction, just got to clean them up and paint them but very pleased with them

    Briggs engine id

Hello If the first number is correct it confirms that the engine is 6 hp , horizontal shaft, with flojet carburettor, and pneumatic (air vane)governor. There should be another 8 digit number the first two digits of this number is the year. You should be able to find a parts list for your engine on the briggs website using the 142301 number

    Briggs engine id

Hello Chris, I just had a look at "Briggs Bits". Entered your model number and a few parts pages are available to view. Had 296824 for the coil (possibly old number) & 29861 for the condensor. Best have a look yourself to confirm.

    Hako D522 diesel tractor

I could answer that if it was petrol. But a diesel 2 stroke may use a different oil. Have you Googled JLO diesel engine?

From the photo's I assume it's water cooled. And the two tops on what looks like the fuel tank. One diesel? One hydraulic oil?
