time for a small update methinks, picture time found some numbers on the back of the base, d 21. no idea what these numbers mean but they've been painted over once before and put back on in a slightly different location also found some stamped numbers in one of the scraped surfaces. could this mean this is the thirteenth lathe build? mostly bare metal now, time for some red oxide now sporting a nice coat of RAL 3011 tadaaa! first coat of paint on the outside. collour/collor code is RAL 7005 thats all the pics for now. i did hot pressure wash the ways and some of the other big bits as they were pretty greasy and it also took most of the non original paint off. and before you ask yes i did dry and oil all the machined surfaces after washing it

Not really made much progress with this as I was waiting for the gearbox to have new bushes and a new shaft made. Am pleased to say its all back and has my full attention to get it finished and ready for Tractor World at Newbury...... The new bigger tyres mean the engine requires lifting to give clearance. To enable the lift I had to chain drill and enlarge some holes in the cast backplate. Hopefully, this will be the only modification required? Here's the backplate being modified....... The gearbox case being primed and painted.......

Hi Neil, Front tyres are 4.00 x 10 3 rib, rears are 7.00 x 12. Weights on rears are 35 kg's each side of Aldi weight lifting weights. For the show, which was a last minute entry, the wheels got a quick coat of Screwfix "no nonsense" zinc galvanising spray.

I could just do with that tree.

Thanks, I have a chainsaw project waiting as we speak in the form of a large Maple tree the tornado knocked down, just beside our home. I'm waiting for it to dry a little and the weather to cool. I'll have those shelves filled before long, lol

Well Alain! Impressive collection, the old ploy of buying a lot of shelving initially worked ok then ! .......... Give's you the ready made excuse when your Wife asks why so many Chainsaws ? .....is that you have to fill all the shelves with them !! ......... The only downside I can see (if there is one) is that you will have absolutely no excuse to avoid cutting up the Logs by saying you don't have a serviceable Chainsaw! There's still some gaps to fill on those shelves though .

Mark up for Toro's own Keys makes it uneconomical for me to get from a Dealer here. Strange !. Just checked my Eb** search page and They did not show up on it initially Ewan?. I'd found their own Site (keysandpins.com), so thanks for finding that link and I'll file it, also very handy for others here in UK. Choice they offer for that size (1 or 5) is a bit strange? I will probably end up making a few sets myself, as I need some EN8 (C45) Steel for some other jobs, so they can be made from the waste bar end for very little Lathe time/cost. Regards

Time to get serious with the front end.. Not the best of photo's as someone had put an exhaust in the way, but the front is now welded to the rest of it.. I will put a load more strength in this area but it's one of those jobs best done later when the frame is stipped down (again) and I can turn it upside down. So I could do some structural slicing the front diff needed to be moved forward and out the way a bit.. Of course two of the Allen Key bolts came undone with only a small fight, the front two refused to budge and eventually got chewed up.. The only way to undo them without grinding the heads off was to weld a bit of bar to the bolt head and hope the heat would free the thread up.... Which it did. There's no two ways about it, the Quadzilla front strut towers looked ugly, really ugly.. So why not turn it around and make them a feature With yet more tempoary bracing in place and the top of the towers already mostly wrapped in tube, half the O/S strut tower was cut out! Cleaning up the welds was not fun as they were very hard! Fresh tube welded back in to replace the metal I had cut out, and a Nigel holding the rear tube in place.. A close up for you. And a view from the front and top.... By the time we are finished it will look way better and be much stronger than the original Quadzilla strut towers Oh..... Much to my and Nigel's suprise I found the Quadzilla gear/transfer box the other day.. Both Nigel and I thought it had long gone! If I can make it fit in this space, MadTrax will have HI/Low ratios and a reverse.. Well 5 of em
