Thanks guys! A couple more, I think Ewan will be joining and posting pics. -
3 pointsIan and I payed a visit to Alan and John today to help with a bit of advice on the collection we had a superb day but very tiring it was, we have helped him log and age the items that they will be selling but the best bit is there lots of attachments and other goodies. I must stress that as moderators we did not buy any tractors or attachments , keep your eyes peeled for Alan's forthcoming posts, this was one of the best days I've had in years .thanks Alan and john

The bug has bitten once again...

First of all I'd like to say a massive thank you to Iain (slf-uk) as I wouldn't have been able to get it home without him. He very kindly offered to collect this wheel horse for me as my father is currently ill and is unable to drive. I am overwhelmed by his generosity, so thank you Iain. I have been wanting an auto wheel horse for a while and this one popped up advertised as not having a spark but it looked very tidy in the pictures. I liked the look of it a lot as it was original. I spoke to the owner and he was very honest and said that the wiring needed going through, I set my limit and luckily I won it. My plans are to try and source a hydraulic lift assembly for it and plumb it all in, it's definitely going to be a keeper. Anyway, I know you all want pictures so here it is: It also came with some weird sort of frame under the hitch, anyone know what this is and whether it's original? After I got it home I couldn't resist having a play and to see if I could get it running. I tested the coil, condenser and spark plug and they were all OK, cleaned and reset gap on the points but still no luck. I then ran a temporary wire giving the coil constant power from the battery and turned it over and we had a spark, put the plug in and off she went, a fair bit of smoke but it soon cleared, it hasn't been run in about 5 years so it was expected. The lack of spark was down to some awful wiring, here is an example of a join in the wire: This was just covered in insulation tape, the wiring is totally gone and I have decided I am going to make a new wiring harness. The only problems I'm having is finding a plug for the ignition, also what connectors do these plugs use? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking, Tom -

Yellow Mower Challenge!
S1g and one other reacted to Anglo Traction for a post in a topic
Thanks Ian, although work and progress is slow. Fuel Tank done and finished with Fuel Proof Lacquer. Needs another week to cure fully. I changed the Pull Start layout again, did away with the inner Plate and made another Spacer Ring, so it is more like the original set up. Had to assume the finish was black. The original Rope was washed and the ends finished with Whipping to reduce fraying. The Handle cleaned by sanding, impregnated with Raw Linseed Oil and polished smooth- Throttle Cable routing done and stainless retaining clips made/fitted. It's rather a long 'S' type route, but it's smooth and there's no longer any strain where it enters the Carb. Lever is in good position too- Made new Blackened/ Oil hardened Flanged Washers for the Roller Shaft ends and the Shaft has been extended as described back at the start of page 3/post nbr #41 - Struggling with the Rear Rollers, namely finding quality old versions. I've used the ones off the 1954 Donor Mower, as they have the Brass Tube bore inserts, rather than just bored wood and are reasonable condition considering they've had 60 years use !. I'll give them a good soak in wood hardener, fill some of the hollows, stain and apply several coats of Yacht Varnish. I decided to cut one (good one) in half and cut the worn ends off the 2 - 8 inch long Rollers. This gave me 2 Roller sections on each side (original had 1 each side) of the new Spacer Tube. At least they are the same as the original length and may assist in turning with less drag- One disadvantage this Mower had was that it had to be tilted back onto the Rear Roller to pull the whole Mower when in Transit to and from Shed to Lawns, so they took a lot of punishment...I have a plan to eliminate this problem, but is another separate small project to deal with. So as mentioned previously, the Cylinder (Reel) has got to come out to be ground down so I can fix the clearance issues with the Bottom Blade Carrier. Need to save some cash for that, but at least I can finish all the parts ready to assemble and see if the Engine will spring into life ok . -

Bolens G14
meadowfield and one other reacted to slf-uk for a post in a topic
No progress on the G14 until this weekend as I have been doing some work on my Bolens HT23. I pulled the carb off (again) and took it apart, again no obvious signs of any debris. I put it through the ultrasonic cleaner which certainly made it look visually better. It started looking like this and ended up looking like this I connected up the fuel and it started up without a problem. My test driver took it for a 1/2 hour drive without issues. It passed the smile test. Carb still needs tuning and a few other jobs were highlighted. Iain -

New addition to the fleet
S1g reacted to expeatfarmer for a post in a topic
My MG40N arrived from France on Saturday evening ticking one more box on my model list only two or maybe three more to complete the set, wheeled itw, skimmer and an English spec MG40 with Sachs engine and bonnet. If anyone has any leads on any of the missing three I would be very grateful. The MG40N was built by Ransomes specifically for the French market, this one is fitted with a pto driven hydraulic pump to raise and lower the implement crane which the French seem to prefer over three point linkage. The drawbar is much heavier than UK spec. and it is also fitted with a NATO hitch. The engine starts and runs well, steering brakes a bit iffy and it needs a jolly good clean but apart from that I am well pleased. I even managed to buy an original French Sales brochure for this model on E bay France last week. -

Engine identification??
Ian reacted to BIGBucks35X for a post in a topic
Hi all Just got this engine, it was advertised as a petter pa2 but I'm not sure that it is? The cowel is squarer and it runs on petrol/tvo with a vaporising manifold?? Would be grateful for any info Luke -
1 pointI have not been this excited since I collected my ex girlfriend from a Anne Summers' Party back in the 80s. The anticipation was unbearable. All this teasing just got to stop!

1 pointLooking forward to seeing the sales list and phots Alan. Well done to Nigel and Ian for helping you out with this mammoth task but rest assured they will go to good homes.

1 pointThanks, Nigel and Ian for all your help yesterday. Hope your trip home was OK. I hope to get some of the better tractors and attachments up for sale soon. A lot more work involved than expected when I first mentioned this stash, but getting there, SLOWLY.

1 pointI think they should judge the machines on what sort of feel they give rather than if it's got all the original washers or not.. But maybe I feel like that because I could never build a "show machine" that I would be scared of using in case it got scratched or something!

1 pointfuFrom memory neither ! Long gone and if memory serves me right I last saw the site selling fire places and garden ornaments. Come down the 21 to the roundabout at the start of the by-pass. Turn right into the village and it would have been on the left before the high street proper. Trying to think of anyone that I know who would know but at the moment it eludes me. Do know that they did a big trade in Shay machines. Dad had the Rotoscythe with the roller and grass box and I remember a couple of the push four wheeled machines (Countryman) and a cultivator all within half a mile of home.

Hi Fergus, welcome to MOM.. Your plans for my old 6x6 sound interesting. I did plan to put a dozer blade on the front, I even bought all the steel to do it, just somehow never got around to it. Your lucky it was still for sale as I almost bought it back a month or so ago.. Lucky for you I decided my workshop was just too small to squeeze it in If you have questions about the 6x6 please feel free to PM me.. As Mark (Meadowfield) said above, it's good to have the 6x6 back in the fold
