    Project "Why Not"

Thanks mate. "Coming soon to a YouTube channel near you... Test Drive 2 The search for a straight line" Your part of the insanity mate Thanks Norm. As promised a photo of the finished steering box mount. Only tacked on in this photo, it was fully welded on yesterday. Time to chop the column down a bit. The part sliced off the top of the outer column has a bush in the top so I need to reuse it. I also need to graft this bit of the old steering column onto the inner bit of the new column.. The hole is for a massive roll pin that makes sure the steering wheel will never come off without the aid of a large hammer and punch No action shots as I was busy getting on with doing it.. One chopped column, a little over 1 ft has gone from it's height. A test fit.. The angle of the steering wheel has changed. A bit more upright than it was but not by much at all.. Working out the new Pitman arm... Yes that is a box spanner.. But it's more than strong enough and is a nice tight, straight fit on the steering box splines.. So why not use it The new column finished and almost ready to be bolted back in. The mounting bracket at the top bolt's in just behind the dash surround.. Tomorrow I need to crack the box open and fill it with grease rather than oil, then it can be bolted back in until it need to come out for final painting which will be after show season..

    My westwood mini jeep

This was one of those things, i saw a picture on the internet and had to have a go. The first picture was my first mod, front wheels the same size as the back ones. The rest are the finished Jeep. If you want to see more info on this I did a blog on instructables http://www.instructables.com/id/Gas-petrol-powered-jeep-from-ride-on-mower/ If the link isn't allowed/doesn't work just search my screen name in google images.

Regarding a bit of play on hubs / shafts, if you have a decent lathe you could try 'knurling' the shaft to slightly increase it's diameter and also the rough finish gives a bit more grip. I used to do this to piston skirts on the old British bikes to cut down on piston slap ( 40 years ago ) when they were a bit worn.

    Sickle Mower Advice

The Hayter 26 motor scythe has no reverse....would be tricky to use in confined spaces. Its very fast for open areas and if you fit an electronic coil from a later briggs would be reliable. Its kick start via the 3 speed albion gearbox...1st gear is nice and slow..3rd gear you would have to run after it!!!

Managed to get a bit of workshop time today and got some bit jobs done on the Black Horse. (1) Clutch pedal rod adjuster nut freed off. Pedal doesn't need pressing as far forward now. (2) Slight play in right rear hub taken out. About 6 thou difference in hub bore and drive shaft diam. Sorted by use of hammer and centre punch to inside of hub. Crude but effective. Nice and tight now. (3) New gaiter fitted to bottom of gear lever. (4) Stop made and fitted to prevent brake pedal from coming to far back. (5) Is on going. Cleaning up a pair of scooter split rim wheels I got at Newby Hall. These are just right for fitting to the front with tri ribs on. Goodness knows what they've been painted with, but it's like concrete. Ready to paint now, after some filler is applied to the rather corroded insides. (6) Started to clean up the front tachomatic. BTW. The little tool box, along with a second, is an MF item.
