Ransomes Sand Skimming Tractor
Triumph66 and 2 others reacted to mg_rob for a post in a topic
While looking through old photos for some of my machines to post on the forum I came across a small collection of Ransomes photos. They were included along with some literature I had bought a good few years ago on that auction site. One that stands out shows the back end of a sand skimmer. In one of the other photos taken at a vintage rally there is a sign that says Kent & Sussex which would suggest that it was down the south somewhere. I wonder if that skimmer is still lying outside? -

Not trying to corner any markets just trying to find all the bits to get a machine restored to full working order. You need to sell things to corner the market and I don't sell a lot. -

1 pointWell I got another Large Frame Bolens This one is an HT23. From arround 1980 -83. Turns out its the 1st tractor of the 2nd line of production & made its way to the UK I done a trade with a fellow bolens collector up North for my rusty back hoe which he will restore & has more time than me. I had the tractor & various other bolens items & he delivered it Like the rest of the fleet it will need going through as various probs etc. Its in storage for a while now until I get time

1 pointJust finished scanning these photos and had a quick read at the latest posts on the skimmer thread. There is only that one photo of the skimmer, the rest have been taken at different rallys and show other Ransomes MGs. From the look of some of the photos they were taken quite a while ago, in among the photos I found a brochure for the 1992 Great Dorset Steam Fair which would back this up. I did not know when I was bidding on the piece of Ransomes literature that these photos would be included, the seller just added them in. I had sort of figured that since all the other photos were likely from down round the south that the photo of the skimmer would be from the same general area. Here's the pics, anyone recognise any of the machines? Rob

1 pointHi, I reckon it was probably sometime around 2009, maybe 2010. I can't seem to search that far back through my purchases on ebay, that way I might have been able to narrow it down to a few sellers. There is only that one photo of the sand skimmer, the rest are of various Ransomes at different shows. In one photo the exhibit number has 'Festival of Transport' along the top and a sign in the background reads 'Kent and Sussex Fuel Services'. A couple of other photos look very like Dorset Steam Fair. I'll scan a few of them later and post them on a new thread. Rob

Changed the governor no change, checked the spill timing seemed ok. Removed the new head and the barrel fitted a brand new piston and barrel started it up and still the same!!!!!! Seems I am destined to explore the nth degree of set up on all my engines will fiddle a bit more in the morning, good thing about this engine is the electric start at least turning it over is not killing me! Good old Norm re assembled the brake bands on the MG40N and we got that running today, Norman took it for a test drive. -

If, when you bought it there was oil in the sump I think that it unlikely that either the main or big end bearings are the culprit - unless , of course the engine had seized in use . As you have suspected, the steel / cast iron rings have most likely seized to the bores/ liners. Can you drop the sump and slacken off all the bearing caps and see if there is any "rock" on the crank? -

Welcome to MOM Ash, not sure if I'm the only one here that didn't know that Ferrari made garden tractors . It looks a nice machine . You can now ask all the beautiful chicks if they want to go for a ride in your Ferrari . -

An overdue update... Thought I'd get in the action on fender repairs, by the time I welded up the holes in a c series fender, I thought it easier to weld up the very rusty raider fender. Here it is with most rust cut out and patched And with the last patch in place Time for a short video showing the final transmission arrangement and steering. http://youtu.be/S6zzlN8f1-0 And some pics with the body mounted and engine It was going to Newby, but now the GT is going there's no room...
