Monday morning with a mate, Bob, we collected a trailer and went up to move my caravan. All went well. Trailer loaded with what I was taking home and caravan lowered to ground and moved to an empty pitch. Then it started.
Came to drive back to where we'd left the trailer and no clutch. Bonnet up and a small leak was spotted in the pipe running to slave cylinder. My local Land Rover specialists wife kindly came up with a pipe he removed from another vehicle, along with brake fluid. We bled and bled and bled it, all to no avail. 6-30 pm we decided to go home and Sarah, who had kindly stayed with us took us.
Tuesday morning collected a slave cylinder and along with more fluid, Bob and I returned in his Range Rover, to do what should have been an hours job. No matter what we did we could not get a pedal. 2-45pm, hungry and getting p****d off decided to tow the Disco back. Bob not to happy with only a rope. So I suggested I drive it back. Selecting low box, 2nd then starting engine off we went.
30-35mph managing to get 3rd now and then, down the A74 and A7. Not to popular with those coming up behind us. Negotiating, traffic lights, roundabouts and the rush hour traffic around the outskirts of Carlisle, we reached the garage, 30 miles and an hour and a half later.
This morning, calling in garage on way to collect trailer in borrowed Disco, I was informed it looks like the clutch release bearing has failed. The leak in the pipe had thrown us of track.
