    Hayter rough cutters

Hi all I'm new to the group I've just rediscovered my interest in older rotary mowers I used to tinker with them 25+ years ago ive recently bought a couple of hayterettes a Hayter 21 and an Osprey to play with hopefully I can help someone on here one day and might even need a bit of help myself at some point im not planning to restore the machines not work them as they were intended currently from the 4 I bought as none runners I've got the 5hp hayterette working like a dream and the 21 running and driving. The 21 needs servicing and welding The osprey is part stripped as bought but needs clutch work and a new drive chain with a tiny patch of welding once I have put the coil point etc back on and got it running the 3 hp hayterette is being naughty and sheared 3 flywheel woodruff keys for no obvious reason i did discover the blade disk was loose though and suspect kick back and the inertia of the loose disk to be the issue will look at that when I get chance i do have another 5hp engine I can fit if it decides to carry on being silly though it is a more modern engine that just needs its float valve seat replacing and it should be a good motor John

I don't think the Dodge truck looked that good brand new, nice pictures. I really liked the Winget 550 yellow tractor in the first pictures. Looks like maybe a Wisconsin engine?

The only way he'll get abandoned is if he wonders off into the wilderness, never to be seen again.

Greetings from Denmark! After messing around with engines and stuff most of my life, I decided that now was the time for a Tiny Tiger. Although my main interest is vintage motorcycles (50 years old or more), I do a little in generators as well. My pride is this WW2 Zündapp KS 600 generator, but to be honest, it's not very handy: So now it's joined by this one: Being a novice in these small jewels, I have a lot of questions, but few answers. I will tear it down and clean it up. I will keep the original condition, but will replace gaskets, seals, diaphrams spark plug etc., so the main concern is getting parts. I have figured out that replacement diaphrams are available, but have forgot who the supplier is. Then there is seals and gaskets. Are these available anywhere? Can you say anything from the numbers? The engine number is 034616 and the serial number on the generator is 23409. Does these numbers say anything on the build-year? The gas tank is cracked, possibly after a drop so I have to weld that. It might have happened early, as both the piston and the spark plug is shiny and without any carbon build-up. The cross hatch pattern is also clearly visible in the cylinder, so my hope is that the rebuild will be easy. So guys - meet the new chap from Denmark :-) /Steen

    Howard Bolens

Who was this guy? I would like to know more about the history of the man/company. It seems like an interesting story. A man bent on bringing Bolens tractors to the UK and making sure he had his name on every one. Of course I know a few sneaked in under the fence, lol

Here's some info on them. You will need to scroll down a bit to get to the Rotavator folks. http://tractors.wikia.com/wiki/Howard

    Howard Bolens

Alain, I believe Howard produced implements such as rotavators and apparently he saw an opportunity to import quality machinery from the States such as the Bolens. One of the photos shows a very similar decal to the Howard Bolens decals which was essentially slapped onto the bonnet.

Look good Chris. Heavy is good also. But before you get carried away and start drilling holes, the bottom edge of wear strip needs to be 3/8" to 1/2" below the bottom edge of the blade.

Thanks for the informations. It might be 1963, as the reed block is aluminium, not plastic. Anyhow - I took it appart for a bit of cleaning, and while it is not NOS, it have not seen much use. There is no carbon anywhere: I ended up taking it totally apart and gave it a good rinse. This is the state now: The air filter was falling apart, so the foam is now removed and one of the insulating washes on the 12V outlet was cracked, so while waiting for one of my friends to find hos box of these washers, this is as far as I got. /Steen

    Mower i HAVE to repair

As the title says i HAVE to repair this thing for my boss. I've tried to Tell him it isnt worth The time and money. But je keeps telling me this is(was) a really good mower and it even has a new blade. Well here are some pics, you be the judge, would you repair it or throw it out? Said "New blade" Yes, real quality right there, almost cut myself on that Doesnt at all look homemade I can imagine there's going to be some foul language getting this thing apart Getting the bolt through the hole in the blade was like throwing a sausage through a garage door, no wonder it vibrated like hell Results of said vibrations And the State of the deck I forsee a lot of cussing and yelling, maybe even flying tools
