    BIG Blowlamp

Quite often working on this old stuff I find a need to warm things up to free them off or dismantle. during my travels this week I found this blowlamp and thought it would be handy, ive stood a Guinness bottle next to it to compare the size

    Storms

I've been away this week to sunnier climes. Came back to devastation in the garden, flooding and some great pics from my area. The storms were massive and there's hundreds of cars, greenhouses and conservatorys smashed up. Here's a picture Ewan sent me at midnight Wednesday Our local school 9am the day after A picture from the hills above us

    GET ME OUT OF HERE.

It's had a bit of a wash today followed by a spray of diesel to 'enhance' the rust Todays push / pull vehicle was my Fordson Major, which being dated to 1954 makes it only 10 years newer than the N. Some where in between the two came the E27N Fordson (1945 to 1952). Unfortunately the O/S/F tyre didn't stay on the bead but did stay on the wheel. Re-positioning the bar got it moving in the right direction but did bend the bar. The bluey green isn't the correct colour for the N as it should be green throughout (excluding the wheels) but if i can get it running it may be left as is for a while. The offside wing was also loosened to allow it to pivot back round into its correct place. Now the drive chain & gears can be seen. Having left diesel in the bores to loosen the rings the next job is to fit new front tyres & tubes & possibly strip the carb' to stop it flooding. Philip

    Project "Why Not"

To get the column up though the top of the dash I needed to make a hole a bit bigger, so I quickly spun up this bung on the lathe. It fit's like so.. The small hole is for the "drill bit" bit of the cutter to slot into. Letting the dash cool down halfway through the cut. The amount of swarf that came out was amazing! A big hole.. With a bit of the body mount sliced out.. And the bottom of the dash surround notched a bit.. The steering box ended up right where I wanted it.. The steering box mount taking shape. That should work well The mount has now had two captive bolts and one captive nut added.. Both ends have been boxed in and the welds cleaned up, I just forgot to take any photos of it.. Likewise I have made a start on shortening the steering column but also forgot to take any photos.. I'd best remember Monday

    Been out foraging again

I always fit my own tractor tyres, i have a tyre machine in my workshop and worked in tyre shop. The small ones are easy to do with levers and don't take long and as the usage is mainly on grass at the most at 7 or 8 mph they don't need balancing. As I'm really old , good used ones will see me out 😀😀😀

Thanks Iain, the back is a lot better, it's just he rest of me that's the problem now The new metal on the front of the fender pan has now been fully welded up, mostly shaped and the welds ground down.. Just in need of a splash of red oxide in these photo's. As you will of seen elsewhere on MOM the mystery steering box from Chris turned up. Thanks mate The mystery part turned out to be Austin A30/35, thanks for that Max Getting the Pitman arm off the steering box is a whole story in it's self.. Involving a hub puller, zip ties and a huge amount of heat! Once the arm was off the plines the next challenge was getting a large nut off the shaft, this didn't quite go according to plan when the end of the threaded bit on the shaft sheered off right where the split pin holes are/were. As the shaft needs extending a little bit this wasn't a problem. So will it fit? with the aid of a pair of scissors this were looking good.. New and old steering box.. The box bit of the new one is certainly a bit smaller.. Trial fit time. The box is at the right height it just needs to go back a bit or there wouldn't be any room for the new Pitman arm to swing.

I cant help myself, I go for new tires every time, I even pay to have them mounted. This may seem unbelievable (it was to me), but most major tires stores will NOT mount a used tire of ANY kind, on a mower, car, or trailer wheel. In fact Walmart will not mount 2 new tires on the rear of a car without mounting two new ones on the front, They say its the law. I pay 27.00 for a 4.00-8 or a 16x6.50-8 so it doesn't pay to mess with used tires, especially if you have to pay to mount them. Around here tubes cost 10.00 with tax and most come from China and will pop quicker than a dime store balloon. One thing about buying new is at my age they will last a lifetime.

    JCB Solite Hydraulic Power Pack.

Finally! After nearly a month of searching the country Ive managed to purchase another identical engine off ebay. The best news is the starter works perfect and the exhaust is much better than what Ive got. I had to pay strong money for it but it ticks over so smoothly.

    Yellow Mower Challenge!

Hello Alan, thanks. The Bearing and Pinion surfaces at each end cleaned up ok with no pitting, even though the L/H Drive Chain, Sprocket were solid with rust and the R/H Bearing rusted up. Checked them over with a Micrometer , then polished them up with Crocus Grade Emery. Bearings are still a press fit. I had made covers for these areas out of Copper and Brass tube to protect them at the Blasters. The Drive Pinions are less worn than my originals (they were subjected to sandy soil lawns in their previous useful life, but all still good/useable). So it means I can use all the Drive parts from John's Donor Mower including the Wheels as the parts all have 'Bed In and Mate Up' well together.
