    Yesterday's Farming

On 15th and 16th of August I went to Yesterday's Farming Show, held in Puckington, Nr. Langport, Somerset. Lousy start on Friday wet all day but made it onto the site unaided, finally found the campsite with he help of Charlie Moore and his Landrover, set the caravan up. Saturday was much better, display set up, went round the ring with my latest machine, a 1960 Merry Tiller, the only one that ran! First two pictures show two International Cub Cadets in the ring with the International tractors, international being the featured make this year. First we have Horticultural Steward Marcus Stephens on his 76, then Charlie Holland on his larger model. Third picture is of Charlie Holland's load, a Trojan Toractor. Fourth one is Marcus' Monrotiller, which also developed a fit of the gripes in the ring. Fifth one is a line up of horticultural section in the ring. Sixth one is the second line. Seventh and Eighth is my Merry Tiller Tarpen display[

Not sure of the differences between a B10/1 and B10/2 but this parts diagram of a 1 may help. What model Villiers engine is it - some had Amal carbs https://www.dropbox.com/s/p6vizp98n2gknjx/Villiers%20B10%20Carb0001.pdf?dl=0

Seems there is a new addition to the herd As far as I know this is one of the earliest Westwoods. If you look at the foot rests they are very different from the later ones which rise up near the front of the mower, and have some pretty nice sharp angles The gear selector is in the same sort of place in front of the seat as a classic Wheelhorse instead of being column shift. The whole mower also seems to sit a couple of inches lower than my other Gazelle. It is basically exactly the same as my other one but everything is slightly different. As far as I know this is from the late 1970s, but I shall check tomorrow, and get some better photos. It does not run currently, the carb needs some attention and the deck needs a new belt to mow with. I plan on keeping this Gazelle as original as possible, I have rarely seen ones of this age about, and it isn't in bad condition at all, only some surface rust. It needs some TLC but overall is very solid. I think it would be a shame to repaint it but I wouldn't want it to eventually rust away, is there any product I can use to preserve it whilst keeping it with an original look?

    Mayfield tractor

I have just got myself a Mayfield with scythe attachment and a tow along seat....( I nearly posted this in the ride on section ) It is a runner but needs a throttle cable and an air filter for the bottom of the carb. which I believe is a B10/2..has.anyone got a parts drawing for same? Other than that it looks pretty tidy and complete, I will put some pictures up when the rain stops and I can uncover it.

Try meetens for the red filters, they had some last time I asked, also they still had some of the oil bath type but the base of the carb and clips is different to the red type, so you would need to obtain these as well to convert. The b10/2 could also be had with the oil bath filter. The b 10/1 and b 10/2 are all but identical. The b 10 had a ball float instead of the black plunger type, but otherwise was the same as the other 2.

    Panther 101 Hydraulic Power Pack.

Made a bit more progress with this pack today. New switch was fitted,a new gasket was made up for the tank and then assembled. The carb was overhauled and the air filter assembly straightened and fitted. I also refurbished the valve block, luckily the hydraulic filter is the same as used on some modern CAT power packs. The final job for today was to plumb in all the hydraulics.

Some nice looking GTs there. I like the 2 blue Bolens 600 in the line up. I have to insert this show into my diary for next year as it's in the South West.

Ouch, that's not good Alain... Wishing you a speedy recovery as it's rather hard to drive any of your machines lying on your stomach..

Alain, good luck with your recovery. A friend of mine had a similar operation on his eye and made a full recovery.

    Playtime in the Gill

Sorry about the poor quality, had to resort to some phone footage and free wifi. Here's a few minutes of playtime over the last few days. The rain has been atrocious and the Gill (stream, river, creek) is in flood. http://youtu.be/EdhlBy9xedQ

    JCB Solite Hydraulic Power Pack.

Thanks to obtaining a workshop manual for the engine, I have sorted out the majority of the wiring on the honda machine. It now turns over on the key. Just got to heat shrink a couple of the tatty cables and wire in the extra stop switch. Ive also refurbished the carb.

I agree, keep it original and preserve it patina. Once it gone, it gone.
