    Ransomes ITW

Well I'm afraid I've been hiding something from you all for about 5 months, I have busy re creating a rare if not singular example of a Ransomes ITW. Its taken a lot of hard work and to be honest I'm glad it's finished apart from completing the snagging list. The original is believed to be a one off, prototype machine which pictures are all that's left (as below) The likelihood of me coming across an ITW let alone buy one was very low, then even if i did find a genuine one I would have found it hard to cut it up to make it into the replica, so I started with a donor MG6... Here Jonathan is loading it with the help of a winch tractor to bring it back up for me from Hereford. I mainly made it for the Ransomes display at Malvern in February. Everybody has there own opinion of replica machines and cars and sometimes they are not appreciated the same but hopefully this one will because as far as we know it is been lost to us all and re creating it is a good thing....... I do have a video but not worked out how to upload it yet... To give you some idea of the engineering involved... the main shafts which hold the wheels are 90mm bright bar and the parts which hold the sprockets are 190mm! The engine came separately from a nice guy in Peterbourgh who kindly took a large hit to sell it to me from what he paid! Hope you like it.......

    Oopsadaisy.

This afternoon got the C-125 out and put the deck on. Mowed the green and verges, but something was not quite right. I usually have the height adjuster set with about 1-5/8 of thread showing. The deck was not cutting well and to close to the ground. The adjuster ended up so the lift lever hardly moved from up to down. Back in the yard, deck off and started to clean the 125 down. It was then I noticed a damp patch on the concrete, just below the lift arm. Petrol! The fuel line passes very close to the steering quadrant. As in very close. When on full left hand lock, the quadrant had, over the years, been trapping the line between it and the chassis edge. This had finally sprung a leak. Bad bit cut out and a piece of copper tube used as a connector and no leak. Oh! I did slightly modify the tower where it joins the chassis. Bent it out a bit so fuel line lies in the gap out of harms way. Next job was to clean off the deck, To do this, and for storage, I've made a timber stand so it sits vertical on it's tail. Started to clean the underside and it was then' I saw why it was not performing as it should and adjustment was all to pot. After the last mowing session, someone decided to sharpen up the blades a bit. This was duly done and all re-assembled. Only problem was, Mr Richard Head doing the job had not got his brain engaged. THE BLADES WERE UPSIDE DOWN.

    Uh oh...in trouble again...

Got the chance mid week to grow the collection. Cue a day off work and 500miles in a day... Got stopped twice by the dibble and had a hellish drive getting home at 3 in the morning. I think it was worth it, but still recovering from the drive, 2 hour load up and the fact I spent a lot of money. Ewan has been sorting stuff, I haven't really had time. Here's a PIC the day after. And shortly after we reduced the pile. Theres even more goodies to unload and sort through...

    Ransomes ITW

Basically the fact that it has a steering wheel and a step through body, and lights.. Only 2 years older than yourself Charlie, it's amazing what you can achieve when you put your mind to it..

A friends Lister domestic water pump

A friend of mine bought a Lister water pump from Johns place a few weeks ago and since then its had new bearings , springs and gaskets. He came round today and wanted a water tank and some pipes made up. Over the last few weeks I've been playing with a chicken plucking machine and i had a spare tank which is from a drinks vending machine made of stainless steel ( also from Johns). Out came the box of pipe fittings and pipe threading tool, with the help of the power hacksaw ( also from Johns ) we fabricated it all together. Here's a couple of photos, hope you like

    What Pressure Washer to buy?

I have used a electric 1750 PSI unit for 5 years so far, it cost 119.00 back then and when it goes out I will buy another electric one. The gas models are great if you want to take the chrome off of a bumper, but they are loud, they put out more pressure than needed, they take routine maintenance, and cost money for gas and oil. You can buy two to three electric models for what one gas models runs, if each electric model runs 5-7 years, that 10-21 years, say 15 years to average, no gas, no oil and I doubt many gas models would run 15 years. The electric models take up less room than the average vacuum and are light weight to move about.

Here's the recut valve seat and the reground valves, The exhaust valve now sits a little lower in the seat due to the amount of material needed to be removed to get a un-pitted seat. The valve should be ok and not burn up! Here's the block, cylinder head and sump all painted in this 'lovely' shade of green, Linden Green!
