    New Plough

I picked up my new plough today, (well new to me) It's not a wheel horse plough nor does it have any makers name/marks but I am hoping to adapt it a little bit and get it onto the back of my wheel horse raider 10. I've been after a plough for a long time now, Hopefully start work after next weekend!

    RedSquare information

This Saturday, May 16th, RedSquare will be going through a software upgrade. As most of you are aware, MoM and RedSquare are sister sites and share the same physical computer server. While this upgrade will not affect MoM, there may be periods of time where response time is sluggish simply because of the shared environment. RedSquare members, like what you see here? Please sign up, be glad to have you here as well, but remember this is for ALL machinery, not JUST Wheel Horses Now for the question you may be thinking... YES, MoM will be upgraded to the same software as well. Originally I wanted MoM to be first because it's smaller than RedSquare, but the forum skin for RedSquare was done before MoM's (which hasn't been updated yet). So after the upgrade pop over there and take a look because when everything is sorted, MoM is next -- Karl Status [x] 8:00am - Prepare alternate communications [x] 10:00am - Go grocery shopping (oh, you didn't need to know this one huh?) [x] 12:30pm - Lunch (was good) [X] 2:00pm - Forum will become off-line to members and a complete backup will begin - Database backup complete - File system backup in progress (pictures, manuals etc) complete [x] 3:30pm - Actual forum upgrade will begin (RedSquare will still be unavailable) [ ] 4:00pm - Upgrade completed, post upgrade steps begin (Still unavailable) [ ] 10:00pm - RedSquare available, *SOME* functionality may not be available

JCB Beaver II Hydraulic power pack.

Allthough unintentional, Ive now acquired a number of old power packs, so rather than the thread get mixed up I felt it is more appropriate to do a separate topic for each one. This is my Beaver II power pack that I collected yesterday morning. Basically the problem with the Beaver 1 was that the frame was just not up to the job, so after only 2 years in production in 1988 a much more substantial version was introduced. Having said that this one has suffered quite a bit in the frame department, with a few kinks and the axle is missing altogether. Also someone has dismantled the hydraulic side and lost some of the parts. I plan on getting at least 3 of my packs frames sorted so I can spray them all together.

Soon to be Cub Cadet Tipping Cart

I also managed to bring back this little tipping trailer today, again I'm not too sure on the make? any input will be greatly appreciated, I've not seen them with the round pole chassis/draw bar thingy ma bob!? it's got lots of surface rust, but nothing many of hours sanding shouldn't sort out, but my plans with this are to paint it all up cub colours and add a few cub decals and pull it behind my cub cadet, I'm not sure weather to keep the solid tyres or change the wheels and tyres for pneumatic ones? Guys?!?!

    Digging out a large bush

So the wife is always pestering me to work on the "Honey Do" list. She also says I should use those tractors instead of reading about tractors! So...... Since RedSquare is down today, out came the backhoe for some work. Thought I would post over here since I still have the need to read about tractors, engines and machines. Needed to remove a large 12 foot Forsythia bush. She wants to do a small garden in this area and this thing took up quite a bit of room. Had to dig a trench around the base, hooked up a chain to the front end bucket and yanked it out. Put a beating on the hoe with some of larger roots and rocks but got it done. She hasn't decided if the others will need to go yet so I may be back at again next week.

    Bolens 1556 Restoration

Well I finally started the Bolens 1556 restoration, not like I have it long, maybe a couple months, but it seem like years to me. I still have a Homelite T16H and a CASE 224 in the que, but the 1556 cut in line. I've had the special grey/white mixed in a top of the line tractor/implement paint and plan on using a special reducer and hardener in it on the last coat. Tomorrow I will order the decal set, , I got ta new rubber BRAKE pedal pad yesterday, and my rear taillight came in last week. I have a brand new set of expensive Carlisle Turf tires, just not sure that's the way i want to go, but with me making under 600-800 a month I may have to.

    Amp Champ generator

Here another Champ that I have added to my collection, its a 12V only version made for the US military. Unusually the engine serial number has been ground off, I don't know if all the ex-military ones were. Since taking the pictures I have removed the incorrectly fitted NGK long-reach spark-plug and fitted a Champion UY6, this isn't the first time I've had a seller fit a new plug of the wrong type just before they shipped it. The bug has bitten once again...

Hi all, Had some time on the C-120 today. Got it all wired up, new fuel lines and filter and turned the key and off she went. I am very happy. It does smoke a little but I'm hoping a carb clean and de-carbon the head will help. It does run well though and the throttle shaft has minimal wear. Group photo: The next things to do are put the new decals on, grip tape on the foot boards, install an ammeter and clean up wiring and fuel lines and finally get a new battery for it. The only other problem is that the headlights work however they are intermittent and it's only when you wiggle the wires they work, faulty connection within the unit I expect? I haven't looked into it but are they sealed or can you split them? I have a video that I will try and upload later on. Tom

Bolens H16 Washing and Deck Clean Up

Thanks Iain, I saved it and made a print copy to take to the shop. I finished repairing an Ariens HT18 today and had a nice visit with another collector named Garoyl. He has 25-30 old garden tractors, mostly Massey and Allis, but recently acquired a 1975 Wheel Horse D180 with a deck and blade, I cooked burgers and the wife made salad and later I let him drool over my collection, while I followed him with the wiping cloth.

The original was sold at the big Wheel Horse show in Pennsylvania a couple years ago to the president of the WHCC. I kinda miss it so I decided to build another one close to original as I can. Hope to have it done by the end of June so I can take it to the big WH show to see it's older brother. Here's a pic of the progress so far. Got the lowered front axle done, most of the frame welded up, most of the offset steering and the firewall.

Mark, The steering box on the Cub is a Ross unit which is the same as used on the Wheelhorse D-series and a number of JD garden tractors. When I overhauled the steering box on my D-series I managed to cross reference the parts to JD parts, which were on the shelve at our local JD dealer and considerably cheaper than buying the parts from the US. I posted the part numbers in a post on RedSquare ages ago, could have been within James's d-series rebuild thread. I can't even remember what my ID is on RedSquare without looking it up. It is possible you may be able to get a complete new column, certainly the JD parts lookup will give you an idea of what it available. If you can't easily find my post I will look up the details for you later as I am in the middle of trying to fit the deck to my Bolens HT23 at the moment, and forgot that a goat needs to be sacrificed first before attempting the task Iain

    2 lawnriders

they look in good condition kev, just watch them when you turn sharply though, they tend to fall over MP046: British Anzani Easimow & Lawnrider Primary tabs View (active tab) What links here The British Anzani Easimow and its successor the Lawnrider are two of the most distinctive mowers of the past 50 years. When it was introduced in the early 1950s the Easimow was one of the first mowers specifically designed as a ride on machine for the domestic, as opposed to professional, market. The Easimow was originally designed and manufactured by E F Ranger (Ferring) Limited. Later that decade the manufacturing rights were acquired by British Anzani, an established and well-known manufacturer of agricultural and horticultural machinery. The company had historic links to the Anzani company that made its name manufacturing aeronautical and aircraft engines in the early years of the 20th century. The Easimow was a very basic design. A tubular steel frame supported the engine and cutting assemblies as well as the roller seat. The mower was articulated in the middle and was steered using what might best be described as a cross between bicycle and pram handles. The early models had a 16" cut and were sold for £80 plus £16 purchase tax (a forerunner of VAT). Production was steady and, judging by the relatively few examples that are around today, the mower was not as popular as contemporary walk-behind mowers from companies such as Atco. In the early 1960s the Easimow was developed into the Lawnrider. This mower, available in 18" and 24" versions, had the same basic configuration but the major difference was that the chassis was now enclosed in sculpted steel panels. The seat and rear roller became much more integral to the design and the mower had an appealing streamlined appearance. Some people refer to the mower as "the swan neck" because of the shape of the chassis as it rises from the rear section to the front. The Lawnrider was painted in a distinctive pale green with a metallic finish. An unusual feature of both the Easimow and the Lawnrider is that they are basically "front wheel drive". The power from the engine was transmitted to a drive roller on the front section of the chassis just behind the cutting cylinder. The roller of the rear chassis section supported and provided stability for the rider who sat on a bicycle seat. This layout gives the impression of a tricycle, especially on the Lawnrider where the front roller was very narrow, and can occasionally make for an interesting driving experience over uneven surfaces! One of the innovations of the Lawnrider was that the cutting cylinder could be lifted from the lawn while the mower was in motion for easier travelling between tasks. This also enabled the Lawnrider to be used for other tasks around the garden in conjunction with attachments such as a trailer. The use of rubber belts rather than chains or gears to drive the cutting cylinder was also unusual at the time. By the late 1960s British Anzani was facing stiffer competition and the company stopped making the Lawnrider. The company had disappeared from the horticultural market by the early 1970s. The Easimow and Lawnrider have a dedicated if small following among collectors. They are an interesting stage on the evolution of the lawn mower. Examples in dilapidated condition are relatively easy to find but good quality machines are more sought after.

    Project "Why Not"

Morning all, a bit more progress for you.. Starting at the top... Brake fluid reservoirs mounting bracket.. Only tacked on at the mo. Middle... Bonnet hinges... Bottom... Two bit's of box welded to the engine frame... These will bolt to the chassis and will add vital strength to that area.. Getting the engine out was interesting, slide it forward and lift at the same time! Engine frame bolted back on to help keep things in line during welding... Plenty of surface rust to be cleaned off! A view you would only normally get if you were lying on your back and had just been run over by WN I did make a good start on the cleaning up and welding yesterday, lot's of joints like this needed welding up.. A few more parts have turned up.. New front tyres, sorry for the rubbish photo.. And some shiny stainless pancake air filters.. These are for a 1098cc MG Midget engine so two of them should flow more than enough air.

The NR2 is now living the good life with my other honored engines that live in my bedroom. Actually its more like a storeroom off the side of my bedroom, but there is no door separating the two. This is where all my restored, and very special engines live. I have a really good wife! There are 20 here in my bedroom, and another 20-30 at my shop. Here are a few pics. Matt

Grass cutting weekend with a twist

I didn't appreciate how long our grass was until Saturday so some serious grass cutting was in order. The first job was to service the push mower so my wife could forge ahead with the smaller bits of grass and then sort out my son's electric toy car so he could tow trailers of grass cuttings from the push mower. I have been side tracked recently with new purchases and neglected the repairs needed on the main grass cutting tractor, the Bolens HT23. I did attempt to use it but it was too sick, those Kohler twins are a pain. I then spent the rest of Saturday hooking out a deck for a Bolens tube frame tractor which was hidden at the back of one of my storage sheds. The plan for Sunday was an early start, rebuild the tubeframe deck, drop it on a tractor and forge ahead. When I opened the bedroom curtains on Sunday morning I was faced with this surprise from my wife. I cut most of it out with the tractor today but as the push mower is set lower it can still be seen. So if you are planning to fly into Norwich fleapit International airport look out for it. Iain

Hello all, I just joined this forum, and please excuse my ignorance towards tractors and such. I am writing today, with a long shot of a query. I have the remnants of and old tractor on my 80+ acre property, and was hoping that someone here could give me a general idea of what this is. The only clear markings I can find on anything that is left, is on the rear axle, which is marked Timken. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Wish I did have some build pics. I usually just start building on a whim with no real plan or expectations so many projects never make it to completion. Plus I work so messy, unorganized and on many things at the same time, the camera would probably end up lost or broken if it was anywhere near the shop. This thing actually started out as something else but turned into this when I happen to put the snow blade up near the tires while looking for some fender ideas. By the time it was figured out, it was almost done.
