Cub Cadet 70
Joe the small engine man and 5 others reacted to Cub Cadet for a post in a topic
As some of you may have seen as my dad posted some pictures. I picked up a cub cadet 70 the other day with all the original manuals and number plates, here's the pictures of when it arrived. My fully restored Wheel Horse C-121 had to go to pay for my new project. These are the manuals that came with it and also the leaflets from the dealer in Cleckhuddersfax. -

The forklift earning it's keep.

One of my 1250s has developed a starting problem and I was needing it closer to the garage so I can work on it. I fired up the 1886 forklift and it made short work of the job. Bear in mind that the mast is only rated for 750#, and that the shipping weight of a 1250 is listed as being 975#. Now add the weight of the fluids and the dual wheels and one could safely say that the 1250 is a tad over 1000# as it sits. The 1886 forklift didn't even grunt. Just picked it up and away I went :D -

Another Show A Bigger Display
nigel and 4 others reacted to usedtoolman for a post in a topic
I just got back from the Memorial Day weekend show in Bernardston MA. The attached picture shows my display of O&R engines which has grown a bit from the previous posting. I ran out of room and had to leave some of the larger pieces at home. Great show. Lots of sun. No rain. Chance to visit with old friends. Everybody is amazed at the vatiety of tools powered by the O&R engines. Jim -

3 pointsHi Iain, yep there is a fair few feet of box section is the frame, it should keep it from twisting during launch I'm not sure about how to hold the wiring yet, but I do have a Wheel Horsey solution for holding the brake lines in place. I'm trying to think up something witty to say about the Triumph air filter, but it's just to early in the morning for but brain to work fully Thanks Charlie. Thanks mate, she's getting there now Hi Norm, the engine and rear axle will be going gloss black, the rest will be normal WH colours. To add a bit of sparkle some of the engines ally bit's will be polished up Well, what a week that has been! My step daughter has been seriously ill for a few weeks resulting in her being rushed into hospital for an emergency operation last Monday. Since then she has been staying with us and quite rightly so my workshop time this past week has not really been much! The good news is Lisa is now recovering quite well, and life is slowly returning to normal for both us and Lisa What workshop time I have had this week has been taken up with welding.. The inside of the chassis where it meets the front axle has been plated up giving it a smoother look and thus changing my plans on how the front end will look.. The outside of the same bit of chassis could of been welded up and ground smooth, but it would never look as smooth as the inside bit.. So a cardboard template was made and some WH panel off cuts were dug out. Resulting in.... The very front of the chassis under the axle needed tidying up, and as the whole build has a Hot Rod feel to it I thought the chassis needed the same touch.. Three bits of plate and a bit of box tacked together. Which go here.... I would of welded them on but early Wednesday morning I ran out of welding gas.. I wondered why the last of the gas vanished very quickly and found a welding burn hole through the rubber pipe! So watch out for flying sparks guys and girls! New gas didn't arrive until late Thursday afternoon so instead of welding I did some cutting.. Eight plates marked out on some 5mm thick steel. These would of been easy to make had I not wanted the curves! It wasn't until yesterday that I got the chance to weld all the new bits on.. Lot's of welding and lot's of grinding the welds smooth, but it was worth it

I've sorted out the photos now, it is an electric start and the springs are factory as they are in the brochure that came with the tractor from the dealer, this is from the brochure. Hi Tom, it is very rusty in places so a lot of new tin work has to be welded in so I will be restoring it. -

At long last, due to family bereavements, I have loaded my 1254 to go to Dorset to a friend (Daniel, aka Robins) to fit a new wiring loom in it and to do some carb fettling. When I got it back in early autumn I pumped up the tyres and greased everywhere and unlocked the diff lock to enable her to move around freely. Today, she moved from the back of the garage for the first time and onto the back of the Hilux. She's really is a solid bit of kit and worth the effort to revive her. I got a new fuel tank, battery tray, belts, air filter and other items to aid her rejuvenation. She will be dropped off tomorrow morning. Be good to have a catch up with Daniel and see how his WHs are faring. -

Went oop North to pick this up today It's a Wheelhorse R26 rear engine rider, fairly rare over here I would think It's a bit rough and ready at the moment but it has the all important spec plate, a sound deck and was not dear so a good project methinks Not a runner but has good compression so fingers crossed Here's some photos... -

1 pointWhen at Newby Hall last year, we were camped about 1/4 mile from where our exhibits where. Having three and only being able to drive one at a time, walking back and forth got to be a bit of a bind. So for this year something had to be done to save the poor old legs. They're not as young as they used to be. It's the rigor mortis setting in early. So this morning I had a scrat about. One Westwood front axle and wheels, some 2" box section, surplus ladder racks and the result you can see below. Still ramps to make yet.
-
1 pointThat is the question. This machine offers the option of both. I'm bowing down to German engineering on this one boys, sorry, I just do not know what to say. http://www.tractorbox.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4797

1 pointThat guy has some serious talent and bottomless pockets. All that hydraulic stuff can get expensive. And my wife says I have too much time on my hands to play around with tractor building.
-
1 pointVery nice old Machine!

1 pointAlain, Originally I planned to keep the 1254 as found condition as I like the 'farm look'. However, having dropped it off at my mate's house yesterday, he suggested it was on the wrong side of patina. Having bought the 600 in its original weathered look; I am beginning to wonder if it need to be repainted at some point. It need to be up and running before I commit myself to any further expenditure. I look forward to hear from your research into the paint codes. Cheers

1 pointCub Cadet didn't make the lift that I put pictures on of, the part that they called the 3-pt hitch is the casting that features in the brochure below, this came with my tractor. The pictures that Alain posted is what the Cub Cadet and Brinly 3-pt hitch was like. There is some cool implements isn't there. Ewan

Those are CST ANCLA ATV tyres. I have them on two other large frames as well. My 1886 with FEL and the HDT1000. They are 6-ply rated with a good load capacity, and with a tread depth close to 1" give great traction. As an added bonus, their logo uses a Husky so it's almost as if they were destined to be used on a Bolens tractor :D -
1 pointToday has been Silloth Green Day. This is held every year, with various attractions along the garden fete lines. There is also a small vintage section. So after being asked to go and exhibit for two or three years now, I succumb, loaded the C-81 and the C-121 this morning and off we went. Turned out not a bad day, though somewhat chilly at times, from the wind blowing, in from the Irish sea. I remembered to take my camera, so a few photo's for your perusal.

Bolens Husky tractor
slf-uk reacted to OldBuzzard for a post in a topic
You aren't fooling anyone with that pic. It's very obvious that what appears to be a tow strap is a piece of steel bar stock painted tan, and the Bolens is really pushing the Wheel Horse :yankchain: -
1 pointIt'll turn out to be something simple in the end .what about a temporary electric fuel pump to boost pressure? How are the two pumps synchronized for fuel delivery? has someone had it apart before ? could the delivery be less on the second cylinder? Does it run faster when on one cylinder than the other at the same setting? Soon be time for more asprins ps I assume the cam lobes for the valves checked out ok
-
1 pointI see what you mean, I have to admit I hadn't seen one like this before, it's just weird how both Ewans and mine have an identical lift set-up. Tom
-
1 pointSpot on Alain. Thanks. Is that the correct size too? I need to check the tyre sizes for the front. Cheers
-
1 pointIf there is a problem with fuel supply then I suppose it's possible that which ever way round you have the components the first one in line could take what it needed and drop the pressure/flow enough to cause a problem, it shouldn't, bearing in mind it doesn't inject both at the same time.also 'cracking' number 1 injector would not allow any more fuel to number 2. Could you swop the pipes round to feed number 2 first and see if the symptoms transfer to the 'new' second in line
-
1 pointYou would not dare sell any of yours Iain Good machine Tom
-
1 pointVery nice Cub Ewan, you're also lucky to get all the manuals with it! Are you going to restore it or leave it? Tom I'm no Cub expert as I am new to them but I'm pretty sure the springs are factory as they were an option, from what I've read anyway. Apparently spring assist was an option to obviously help lift heavier implements. Tom

1 pointThanks Alain. Just had a look; a good price. I would really like those 3 ribbed tyres for the front too. I think All Terrain Tyres have them. I will check them out too.

1 point53 pounds for Kenda BKTs, I like the 8.50 wide for AG tyres and the 10.50 wide for turfs tyres, this outfit seems to have good prices on tyres. http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&cart_id=68497939.110.11435&Breite=23x8.50&Quer=&Felge=12&Speed=&kategorie=&Marke=Kenda&ranzahl=2&tyre_for=&x_tyre_for=&Herst=Kenda&m_s=4&weiter=10&rsmFahrzeugart=AS&search_tool=standard&details=Ordern&typ=R-188542

1 pointNot quite my cup of coffee (I don't drink tea) Paul, but a nice find and a good save.. It would of been a shame if it was raced or scrapped..
-
1 pointAlain, I saw this post come in but I was so busy last week that I was unable to reply. I tripped over that problem a few years ago and spent a very long time head scratching before I found the solution. I see the Andrew and Dave jumped to the rescue I only realised the parts manual (1556, H14, H16) was wrong when I noticed that the G14 parts manual also shows a 34 inch belt but with a different part number to the H16. One of them was clearly not 34 inches. It is the only problem I have found with the Bolens parts manuals. If anyone has found other anomalies it would be good to know. Iain
-
1 pointGood thinking Doug, thanks, I will see if I can do that,
-
1 pointYup, tug-o-war is the way to go. Engage the diff lock and sit back to enjoy
-
1 pointHi, Rather than strip the thing right down, is it possible to set up a dial gauge to read the lift from the cam lobes and compare them either with a spec sheet or each other? looking at the manual via the link from Koen, could the spacer between the tappet and pump be missing on this cylinder, page 36,drawing 80, item C ? Doug.
-
1 pointI will be buying some ag tyres for the Bolens and for the front a set of 3 ribbed tyres as the front ones are practically bald. A tug of war would be fun whatever happens!
-
1 pointI would challenge him to a pull, not a race, chain each other back to back and see who wins the tug-o-war

1 pointWell you have quite the mystery going on. I commend you on your thoroughness in eliminating possible issues or problems. Now I hope you find the problem and tell us, because other than gremlins, I'm not sure what the problem could be. I had a big tractor that was air cooled, a Belarus, that had a weak injector pump and it started to blow smoke, but I replaced the injector pump because it wasn't moving fuel properly and that fixed the problem. Delayed injection could cause the white smoke and that might, like you said, point toward worn camshaft lobes
-
1 pointI dropped off the 1254 this morning at Daniel's house. Here are some photos of my Bolens in its new surroundings and some photos of Daniel's rare Wheel Horse. It's an electronic one apparently. And yes that's a tow rope to tow my Bolens down to his workshop. Childishly, he got a photo of me and my Bolens being towed behind his WheelHorse.

I looked into making one a few years back, i had one i used for cars but oviously it was to big so i ended up making a small recovery crane -
1 pointWell, nothing went bang so out came the grinder.. Strange baffle thingy.. I guess it's there to stop dirt from entering the carbs.. About to go under the knife grinder After fuel tap pipe enlargement surgery.. I had to lower the fuel tap to give me a fighting chance of getting some sort of air filter fitted! Yes the fuel tap outlet is lower than the carb fuel inlet, but as the tank is above the inlet gravity should still do it's thing and fuel the carbs up. The old fuel tap hole was blocked up by screwing in the end of this bolt and some welding. I still need to make some brackets to bolt the tank down but as it will need to go in and out a lot while I sort the induction side of things out that job can wait a little while.. Speaking of induction, this was the carbs to air filter box pipework.. I only needed the carb ends.. Which were a perfect fit over this 2 inch diameter pipe, or part of a Reliant prop shaft to give it it's full name.. The plan is to plumb this pipe into both carbs and stick and air filter on both ends.... This time I will make sure I get the right size filters

1 pointAs I travel from forum to forum this winter, I cannot help but notice the fellowship that develops between the individuals. No matter what country, religion, financial status ect tractors and machinery seem to draw people together. I thought I'd share with you chaps here on MOM who haven't seen it, an example of what happened to me in a time of need. A heart condition prevented me from getting my tractors ready for what turned out to be one of the worst winters in my 56 years and my tractor friends got together to help. Don't forget to watch all the video's! http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/52230-ist-annual-sqonkfest/

1 pointHello Iain, Welcome to the forum and thanks for some very useful pointers on my Bolens. I have the front cover for the engine and a damaged petrol tank. What I am looking for is an air filter assembly if you have one spare? I am also on the lookout for a mower deck as well? I am sure I will come across a few more issues. Cheers Andrew
-
1 pointQuick picture of my 1054 and a couple of my other tractors, assuming I have got the hang of how to post pictures on this forum. Beware one Bolens is not enough!!! I forgot to mention that I have a good selection of Bolens spares, that I have found alternative sources for some of the parts and both of the parts suppliers I mentioned also sell secondhand parts. Looking at the pictures of your 1254, it looks like the lights are incorrect and you are missing part of the lift lever and fuel tank. Iain
