    Cletrac HG

Hi all Here are a few photos of my Cletrac HG31. I bought this crawler sometime around 1998 as best as I can remember. It is the narrowest version of the HG that was made and was intended for vineyard use, my HG came from a vineyard somewhere in France. It has a 4 cylinder Hercules petrol engine, starting is via the handle only as it has no electrics. I wasted most of the night looking for these photos on various computer backups only to realise they were from my pre digital days

    Cub Cadet 70 restoration

Been busy today cleaning up the chassis and painting, here's some pictures. I'm pleased with the result after a coat of etch primer, it feels like I'm getting somewhere now To help fill the rust pits I'm brushing on red oxide primer. My new toy arrived last week so hopefully it should speed up the restoration and hopefully I will be able to achieve a good clean surface so I can use etch primer.

    Ouch!

Isn't that so surreal. I parked my Citroen in Liverpool last night in a Premier Inn carpark to see John Bishop's Live Show and when I wole up I find one of my wheels was feckin' nicked. That look suspiciously like mine......

    Cub Cadet 70 restoration

Thanks, I'm liking it, I'm putting everything in an E-tank first to clean the paint off, just so it blasts quicker but it is doing a good job, it's a good size so I will be able to fit my bonnet and wheels in there Hopefully it will look like it has just come out of the factory

'S' ........Couldn't resist it!. Seriously though. I seem to find that people/sellers don't use the 'S' when they're flogging Aftermarket parts. However Kohler for example use/d the same part number suffix system of using '-S' , and earlier with prefix of 'A- and X-' . This 'S' Suffix letter was dropped on many later revisions retaining the same number or an updated one. Usually just entering the numbers in a 'Search' will show results with the suffix as well.

Looking good. I made and replaced a customer's shed door myself yesterday. The shed was an old air raid shelter from WWII. Actually quite pleased with how it all went together.

Certainly most Asperas of a certain age will repay a proper valve job - refaced valves and skimmed seats, BUT be careful to have the cam correctly positioned when checking / setting the valve clearances . The piston needs to be a quarter of an inch down the bore on the power stroke. Get it wrong and gap the valve when it is still on the decompressor and it will BITE!!

Evening all another quick update , I've finally got the steering to as near as perfect as I can get it and u can steer it with one finger I haven got as much lock as the original tractor but not far off , I may still be able to obtain this with a few adjustments , I had a little drive on the tractor today in the work shop and every thing worked great so now I'm back to the fabrication part, because I'm thinking of putting a winch on the tractor I'm gonna put two 6volt batteries on wired in series to get my 12 volts I'm doing this for several reasons these batteries are very heavy so will act as good ballast , plenty of power and I have access to plenty of these batteries they have come out of a standby battery backup system they was 50 or so wired together to get mains voltage ,any way with me using two of these , I've made a battery Tray to mount them in under the seat ! Here's what I've done today

    Wheel Horse Sickle Bar.

A little progress with the painting today. First top coat applied. Was going to paint it MF red, but as I'd a full tin of IH red, that's what's going on. One of the small idler pulleys got a really good coat of paint. Can you tell which one? Slipped out of my fingers and dropped in the full can of paint. The other side of the cutter bar is yet to do. Maybe tomorrow, unless I'm herding cattle. Below is part of the mounting frame that Jonathan kindly cleaned up for me.
