3 pointsI have not had much tractor time this year mainly due to work and family commitments. I have the time off between Christmas and the New Year so today Joseph and I have hooked out three tractors to spanner. I have no idea what progress we will make. These are the three we choose to look at. From left to right 1961 Bolens Ride-a-matic, 1962 Bolens Ride-a-matic and a Wheelhorse D160 The previous owner of the 1961 Ride-a-matic added a few "extras" I guess for health and safety reasons, or should that be "elf and safety" this time of the year Joseph really loves the 1962 Ride-a-matic and can't keep off it Santa arrived early for me too even if I had to buy it myself To finish this post off we took a festive picture of the tractors with the outside Christmas tree in the background Merry Christmas everyone!! Great line up of three fine tractors. I see Joseph is still hankering after the '62 RAM! A man of impeccable taste! -

Briggs carb flooding itself
nigel and one other reacted to Wristpin for a post in a topic
Yes, they do split and an additional test is to hold it under just boiled water and watch for bubbles as the air inside expands. Post a pic of the carb' , if it's a two piece flow jet they are known for flooding due to internal leaking where the angled emulsion tube screws in but doesn't seat properly. If you google Briggs Flow jet there is plenty of info. -

As nigel says test the float, you could try just dropping the bowl off and lift the float with your finger and see if it stops the fuel running through the needle valve -
2 points'One nib' countersunk bolts arrived today! Didn't have much time this morning before I had to go get ready for work Today was widely reported to be the busiest day of the Christmas period with a supposed 12 million vehicles travelling 20 miles or more! Thankfully my area of responsibility wasn't too bad, and nothing major happened to interrupt Christmas travel! Anyways....... half an hour was spent fitting the plough shear. Plough is just needing the washers and securing pins refitting to the hitch.

O&R ORline Air Compressor (Compressor made by W.R. Brown)

Hopefully the correct compressor to complete this unit is on its way from the US... -
1 pointIs that another restoration project? I like the look of them both!

1 pointThe best solutions were on the old US Perr Forum which is no longer accessible but one of the former contributors has posted the gist of the solution on the current PPETEN forum - worth a read. If you are going the Pusa Jet repair kit route which will provide the necessary teflon washer the kits are still available under BS pt no 391413 or 4184 for the ten pack. This may be of interest http://outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/briggs_medium_two_piece.asp

1 pointJB weld has always worked for me and is much easier than trying to get solder or braze to take.

1 pointThis morning I filled the tank as Richard suggested. Billy Goat fired up at the third pull and kept running. Can't half fire things out. Put a rag in front of it and didn't see it come out. Stopped the engine and felt around underneath. No rag? Not surprising, as it was lying about 8ft away across the workshop. On the down side, I found a petrol leak. Removed the tank and there is a small pin hole in the back, halfway up. A couple of more suspect places as well. I'll see about having a go at soldering them up next week. Any other suggestions anyone?

I would just spend an hour and try and fix what you've got before spending out for a new one. much more fun if you've got the patients -
1 pointPut the float in a bowl of water see if it floats, I have known them to have a little split in them before now,
