4 pointsHi, Had an afternoon on the Cub today. I wanted to see if the engine ran OK and there was no major problems so I hooked up a coil and tried it. Well I say I did, it looked like someone had tried to do it before. Cleaned the carb and off she went, and I've got proof http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/whtom/th_510BD656-0C65-4948-AA57-A3219A31E413.mp4 The engine runs well for it's age in my opinion. It hunts a bit but I have a NOS carb for it which I am tempted to stick on, I'm also going to fit new points, condenser, magneto coil, fuel sediment bowl and fuel lines. A birthday really I had a drive well and it all seemed really good. The only problem seemed to be the steering which was very tight, I thought it was the steering box which worried me as I was hoping I was going to get away without taking it out and rebuilding it for now. I jacked the front up and it turned out to be the spindles were very stiff, I had great difficulty in getting them out! After eventually getting them out I soaked them in the parts cleaner and it sanded everything down, re-greased and they were 1000x better. I put it back together had a quick drive and it is so much better, I am very happy with it now. Now just to get some bits for it, tempted to take this to Rural past times.. Tom

SWMBO keeps mentioning the Spitfire and how she would like it back on the road. So while the horses were still on the trailer, I decided to give the workshop a bit of a clear up and rearrangement, so work on Spit could commence.. Not seen that much floor space since It was built. Didn't last long. -

And as soon we we got back to the display area it started perfectly! someone got a sneaky pic -
3 pointsJust something to give you all a giggle. Before we set out for the arena, the showman got a rope and shackle from his van. "Just in case anyone needs a tow", he said. Turned out to be a good idea, didn't it Chris? Waiting to go into the arena, his little RJ stopped and refused to restart. So Paul towed him round with the Rowcrop.

Fuel tap will be leaking 'cos you've put fuel in the tank. Getting WN off the bench should be easy if it's facing the door. -

Cub Cadet Transport Box
Stormin reacted to Charlie Smith for a post in a topic
Well today I woke up and looked out the window, the weather was lovely and the sun was shining bright so I thought to my self, what to do today... I got the transport box out of the shed that I've just recently picked up, I've been told it's a Mayfield Tractor Transport Box. I started looking at it from all different and weird angles and sat and thought about it, then something popped into my head, I know its not done professionally nor is it an official cub cadet attachment, but it gave me something to do and in fact I'm really pleased with the outcome, I am hoping to sand it all down,.... might take a while, the weather has got to it pretty bad, but once its sanded down, I hope to paint the metal frame up in a nice gloss black, and then get some good quality grained wood and varnish that for the bottom, back and sides, I know normally these would have tin sides, but It will never be worked. I got a picture before I started and a fair few from when It's finished, but once I got stuck in I forgot to pick the camera up and take some photos of the process but here is some of it now lifting etc, hopefully within the week it may be all painted up. Yesterday just trying it out for looks! Refitting the lift arm. It's now lifting -

The County 1124 for me anytime. Used to work on them in my younger days, driving those and other models from County's main assembly line, up through Fleet town, to the final finishing and dispatch department. Bits added or altered to customers spec, and then loaded onto trucks. -

1 pointVery true Max No photo's from today, so here's a list of what's left to do... Find out why the fuel tap is leaking.. Fill diff with oil. Finish the wiring, it's about 90% done. Finish the prop shaft.. About 50% done. Bleed the brakes again to get the last of the air out. Warm the engine up and change the oil. Set the front end up. Get WN off the bench.. Go for a test drive I expect there will be a few more things I've missed from the list, but roll on tomorrow

the showman reacted to Vinnetrow for a post in a topic
This one day event continued to grow this year (I believe its the 5th year) with bikes, trikes, cars, even a scale steam lorry and a tractor coming and going all afternoon. I tried to film as much as I could, but with wind and a very loud band, some of it was not very good quality. Anyway, heres a few clips... -

1 pointRegarding the flywheel, on a Kohler engine I use wedge a chock of wood in between the engine block and the flywheel so there is constant pressure on the flywheel and usually a combination of hitting the flywheel and the flywheel nut it will come loose. Plenty of penetrating oil and you want lots of shock but not too much so you damage things.. Tom

Very nice Paul, the fenders look like those from a J.I. Case 400 series tractor and the hood almost looks like an early Case GT, size is close as well, but the Case tractors were Hydraulic drive (not hydrostatic), but I do think some models were geared. Very interesting. -
