    Bolens 1556

Well this is the lastest Bolens in my fleet. 1973 Bolens 1556 c/w tiller. Runs well but a right pig to start, Hopefully with a good service & carb clean will solve it. When I get a min!!

    New workshop

Slow progress, what with Xmas and all that. We got distracted with the centre support column and decided it would make a good drill stand/bench grinder stand/ power point.

hi all, as you know I got a FE35 Ferguson, but at the sametime I couldn't resist the Westwood! it was used as a bowling green first cut mower, it cam with spare belts and all the attachments. its a great runner with a new re-built gearbox, I also took the original gearbox as a spare for parts. the engine isn't the original, it looks like a 16HP Briggs but im not sure haven't had time to really look at it, so will have a better look soon! This is it loaded up on the trailer, as soon as I got it up there it ran out of petrol!

Bought this chainsaw carving from a local guy last year and mounted it up on my shed. Just thought it looked cool with the snow covered beard Amazing what some guys can do with a chainsaw.

    Ransomes MG2 number 137

Today was track fitting and lubricating hubs, final drives and track rollers. The arduous task of tensioning both tracks was also finalised 29 track pads per side, two bolts per track , 116 bolts to tighten to achieve a spacing between track plate faces of 21/16". Boring and laborious but has to be done, planet rock on the radio a glove on the right hand and get stuck in! two hours later ,job done! Using a ratchet spanner on one side and a long spanner on the other makes it bearable. Both tracks set for pitch and then tensioned to 1 1/2" below load roller for correct track tension. I used three clamps to hold the tracks in position whilst I made the join. Tomorrow I will top up the engine and main gearbox oil and then fingers crossed start the engine, no idea how long it is since this engine ran but I hope I have everything at optimum to achieve a good start without breaking my wrists as these engines are notorious for doing. I have a secret weapon which I hope will make it both easier and safer. Final jobs are to make up floorboard sections, front bumper and then final touch up. And finally to apply the two decals to each side which are the only Ransomes reference on the whole machine. Over it's life 137 was serviced by a main dealer and had a number of later fitments such as a tool box and track mudguards but my ideal has been to restore it to a condition in which I believe it left the factory some time in February 1936.

    New Tractor Workshop

While waiting for the local engineering firm to open again to get the 2mm top folded up for my bench i thought i would make a start on my work table. All the 40 mm box steel cut to length and a few bits of 19mm as well. Starting to lay out the frame for the work top. Size is 2000mm x 1100mm. As i am only using 2mm sheet for the top, the extra internal bars will be carrying the weight of the tractors. My floor isn't very level so i have had to make adjustable feet. All six legs complete and ready to be welded to the frame. Legs tacked on and lower braces welded in place. Everything fully welded and ready for the wire wheel and some primer. Still need to make some ramps and get a top fitted.

Yup!Updates are sparse due to moving house, just found this pic from Tractorfest. I did some replica chrome decals for the new shifter plates on the transmission tunnel.

Read through all 16 pages of this build last night, I had only seen some of the later posts since joining MOM, and am amazed that Bendy was built in such a short time. What with all the thinking, machining and doing there couldn't have been much time left for going to work etc. A brilliant piece of engineering.
