Not so much handy, but lucky!

As some of you know, we are rebuilding ewans cub and engine. Whilst undoing one of the head bolts it sheared off. We tried welding a nut, but it sheared below. So I ground the top and tried to drill it.... The welding has hardened the bolt so it couldn't be drilled we bought a carbide drill and set to. It all went well until the drill snapped in the block.... Double doh! Fortunately we managed to get the end to drop into the exhaust port. So ran another drill through and then started to clean out the threads. Until snap! The tap snapped when it hit the curve of the exhaust port. Not happy, desperation saw me drill the tap with a carbide pcb drill, three 1mm drills later I managed to break the tap up in the hole and into the exhaust port. I was going to give up last week, but it shows that a bit of perseverance pays off! -

Ride on roller project

This old roller had been parked in our garden for a few years, we used it with a mates Allis Simplicity ride on mower to level the ground for the aviary bird pens when we moved in to the house in 2004. Since then it has sat in the garden a bit unloved so with the increased interest in working/playing events and the need to have something to put behind the Cub Cadets I asked Mr Showman nicely if he could modify it for me, add a tow bar and remove the unwanted parts of the frame. Today we popped down to see Chris with the roller and he kindly fired up the saw and the welder and did the modifications. It was then transported back home and painted, as a tribute and a thank you to Mr Showman there was only one colour it could be... -

Forgot I had never updated this post, so here's some photos... -
4 pointsWe had a good day for the rally. The rain, forecast for the day didn't appear, though rather windy and coolish. The Mountfield I took didn't make the action. Sold while still strapped on the trailer. Good to see two of our Scottish members travel down from Fife with a Wheel horse.

I acquired this last year, after finishing off the Landmaster ride on tractor I thought this could do with a coat of looking at. It's all there and works fine, so it just needed a clean up and a coat or two of paint on it... Decals supplied by Titch... -

Cyclone push spreader
Will-Haggle and 2 others reacted to pmackellow for a post in a topic
Bought this at one of the Collective Machinery sales at Ardingly in March this year. Its the pedestrian operated version of the spreader we have had for a while that goes behind a garden tractor. Its got a bit of tin worm in it that the previous keeper had already tried to do something with, so as its a display piece I cleaned it up as best as I could and painted it, luckily the decals were intact so they were carefully masked up. The only decal not to survive was the OFF/ON decal on the handlebar this was supplied by Titch, a couple of square plastic end caps and a pair of handlebar grips from ebay finished off the spreader. With this unit I now have towable and pedestrian Cyclone spreaders in two sizes, so a display of them all will happen somewhen no doubt... -

Went for scrap Paul. Chris said it was too heavy for Pam to push. Still a few smaller one's around if you want to make a gang roller. Did you know that your conversion was done with metal from John's, a welder from John's and the powered hacksaw from John's, which I would have had for myself if I hadn't been daft enough to tell Chris which pile of junk it was under. Bits were flying in all directions until he found it. -

Not exactly a concours job Nigel but it saved it from the scrapman probably and tidied it up a bit -

Yesterday I collected a front blade/snow plough and a lawn sweeper from a fellow forum member. This morning as it was very wet here I took the opportunity to have a go at fitting the blade, all went well other than a bit of head scratching when I realised the adjusting arm wouldn't fit as it was fouling on the brake pedal. After a short while I realised if I took off the rod guide eyelet and release lever and turned the entire arm so that the dog leg is facing inward (the opposite to how it was) it would fit perfectly, it does. One pin was missing for the lift but luckily I found one of the correct diameter in my box of bits, it just had to be cut to length and drilled for the R pin. Off I went and pushed up the rather large compost heap and was very pleased with the performance. I also assembled the lawn sweep and had a quick play, it works fine but the height adjustment kept jumping out, once again the box of bits was out, and stronger spring fitted and all is well. I also received on Friday my freshly fabricated Clevis hitch which my Uncle started to copy from his original about five years ago! He's made a nice job of it and after a few adjustments to my Mouldbord Plough I was running in some half respectable furrows, I'm even considering entering my local clubs Ploughing match later this year. -

Allen Walkover Sprayer
Stormin reacted to pmackellow for a post in a topic
Last one for today... Allen Walkover sprayer literally rescued from the local tip, I think its early 90's so not that old but still worth saving... Cleaned up and painted, main decal on the tank is another one from Titch at Machinery Decals. -

Ransomes MG6
pmackellow reacted to Ransomes256 for a post in a topic
I recently purchased a quantity of new spares and as part of the arrangement had to take the tractor. This is a very good MG6 serial number 12304 circa 1957 which does not appear to have seen much work. Fitted with a Ransomes 600cc petrol engine and standard 3 speed gearbox with the optional PTO and Hydraulic rear lift. The lift cylinder is the large version and all works well. The Amal 356/1 carburettor has been serviced and the magneto overhauled. Compression was low so valves have been lapped in and bore is on standard size. Engine starts and runs very sweet. Tracks are exceptional as are the drive wheels and weight carrying rollers. Ideal as a working machine or for ploughing matches. Looking for £1500 -
1 pointPutting these on for an acquaintance. He's selling due to ill health. Two Wheel Horse C105's. 10hp. K241AS engines. Spec 46805 and 46812. Asking price £600 o.n.o. These were restored by that notorious Smith family. Frank (Norlett), Mark (Meadowfield) and Ian. Contact Eddie Fawkes. Carlisle. Mobile. 07891669754.

1 pointStarted loading up for the rally today. First the Commando 800 C-81, followed by the Black Horse C-121 and finally the Mountield 11hp that's going in the auction. I did wonder how I was going to get the non running Mountfield, broken throttle cable, on the trailer. Recycled hospital bed to the rescue.

Which end do you mean? one end is 1/2" JIC, the other looks like ISO A. If they are ISO they are easy to get hold of, but usually to BSP. If you need JIC then it's easier to get pipes made to adapt than it is to get JIC to BSP.... -
1 pointSome years back, I acquired a non running Mountfield B&S 11hp Ride on. Deck was mainly rust and well beyond recovery, but it would be ok for the grandkids to ride round the green on. I got it running, Fitted an old car battery under the seat. Threw some paint at it and the result is below. That's number 3 grandson. Now pushing 14 and nearly as tall as me. Back to the Mountfield. It has been covered up in a corner outside for about two years. At the forthcoming HVC rally we have an auction, so I thought it time to get rid of it. Into the workshop and up on the lift. Not expecting it to start or the battery even turn the engine, I turned the key. The engine flew round. Not bad for a battery that must be ten years old at least. So in with some go go juice and try again. Nothing and no spark. Plus the throttle/choke cable had broken. OK! It can go as is. So I left it on the ramp to do other things. Just before I knocked off at 4-30, I gave the key a turn in passing. The thing BURST INTO LIFE. Really made me jump as it blew the well rotten silencer end off as it started. Got me thinking should I keep it. But common sense says no. So off to auction it will go next weekend.

1 pointI bought a raider 10 by the serial plate last year when I got it home and had a clearerr look I noticed it was originally green from new, the lad who I bought it off had in his words given it a quick coat of red . The metal work is in excellent condition no rust at all , so I have tested stripping the red off with chemicals to reveal the green underneath making it back to a Norlett tractor . Such a pity he dawbed it in home base red .It's my next project after a simplicity 728 .
