    Little Petro mini bike

Courtesy of 10242130 Here is a Brochure picture of a Little Petro minibike. It was made in the early to mid 60's by Odom Manufacturing. This is the same company that made the Petro Powered Products Drill that is on this site along with quite a few other Ohllson & Rice powered tools.Jim Odom also Produced the Comet C Saw for Comet.I will be putting pictures of my Little Petro bikes on this site soon,I need to crop them all as the file size's are too big . Only about 12 of these bikes have been located to date, quite a rare bike. This particular Brochure shows the bike with a TAS engine, but early on,they used the Olhsson & Rice. With O&R

Little bit of a delay with tidying up this job. After having the Muffler Glass Beaded, I ended up with about 30 pin holes to weld up and smooth off. Got it all fitted ready and all I could get was a few Firing Revs and it just kept dying?. Checked it all over again with a Spark Tester (ok) as I was getting fuel ok and had fitted a new genuine Kohler Fuel Filter to eradicate any air locks. . Checked the Coil (original) again and found that the Ohms resistance reading had dropped from 13 to 8.65 (when cold) since I last did it (1st Aug)!. So it wasn't the Pump or Carb, it was the old Coil slowly and inconsistently breaking down. Fortunately back in 2009, I bought a used good spare that came off a much later Kohler. Checked it again before fitting and gave 3.6 Ohms on the Primary and 13.45 on the secondary circuit. Found it had 5mm threads on the +/- Posts and struggled to find some nuts n spring washers in my predominantly Imperial workshop. All fitted up and showing the Spacer 'tween the Carb n Intake- The old 30+ year old Spark Plug is still clean and good, but I have fitted a new RH10C to ensure all is ok when I tune it up. So I have now got it back up and running and presently resetting the Idle and Max speeds using the Laser Tacho - Soon as it is running sweet, I'll pull the Carb and refit/tune the original.......Got there in the end!...... and I've found I cannot believe something is good/ok, even when it has been checked!.

    Bolens Ride-a-matic

After a very long time we did some work on the 1962 Ride-a-matic. Over the weekend we removed the non Bolens hitch from the tractor and fitted one imported from US Before: After: It looks much better. We now need to either make or buy the end panel for the chassis Joseph

    Billy Goat.

This Billy Goat is something else I brought back from down south. Although I've rotated the first photo the right way up, it keeps coming up like this. The engine is a 5hp B&S. Had a bit of a look at it today. Compression is good but no spark. Plug ok. Tried it on one of the tractors. Pull start freed up and working. Also height adjustment now working. I need a puller for the flywheel to get at the points. Till then I'll remove and clean tank and carb. Once I get it running and see how it performs, then I'll decide what I'm going to do with it. I doubt it'll stay as is.

    Someone's nicked the greenhouse.

Carol has an artistic streak and wants a new studio. So the greenhouse had to go. Over the last few days, I've dismantled the greenhouse and transported it to eldest daughters. Son-in-law wanted it and was a great help. Conspicuous by his absence. The breeze block base the greenhouse was fastened too, also removed. Hollow blocks are quite heavy, especially when someone has filled the hollows with concrete. These have been taken elsewhere with the C-81 and Saxon trailer. Site levelled up and some 2-1/2 x 24 x 30 inch slabs that have been hiding behind the workshop, placed and levelled at the four corners. More slabs have to be laid yet for the floor supports and that's the next step. The new studio is to be 8ft x 12ft and construction of the will start sometime later in the week. .

    Post up your Ariens pictures

Early on Ariens was most noted for walk behind tractors, later their first residential walk behind snowblower revolutionized the industry. They made a great rear engine rider, rear tine tiller, but had very few four wheel front engine tractors until they bought the Sperry New Holland design in 1974, pictured here. Early simplicity garden tractors from the 1960's are very rare, I think one was called the Mantowitoc and may have been made by Simplicity or Toro. If you look close My Ariens still sports Sperry New Holland brand wheel weights from left over stock.

    Post up your Ariens pictures

Ariens, Bolens, Wheel Horse, and other smaller manufacturers were a threat or problem to major manufacturers like MTD and John Deere. It wasn't just the cost that doomed great garden tractors, it was unfair and unequal competition from imports led by aforementioned global companies. Manufacturing became less about the product and more about the stock prices.

Suppose he could say "Forgot I had this Pam. I had to dig it out from the back of your wood store so I could get the latest load in. I'd better assemble it now before you moan about bits left all over the place". Might work, but if not.

    Cub Cadet 70 restoration

Earlier this week I got round to painting the wheel weights I bought off Charlie earlier this year, I have decided to put these wheel weights on because they are cub cadet ones, the ones that came with my tractor will be painted white so some one else in the family can use them on their tractor.

Afternoon all, for one reason and another progress as been a bit slow again but as long as something is happening then the build is going in the right direction.. The frame now has a removable member to aid getting the engine out when needs be. A close up of the joins that only need a little tidying up. The plan was to get MadTrax off the bench so I could have a seat to feel how she felt at ground level, the pull the engine out so the frame could be fully welded in the places the engine wouldn't let me reach... Well that was the plan.. Off the bench she came.. As you can see from the above photo's there is something missing from the front end to balance it out looks wise. Nigel and I had been wondering what could be done to even it out until I dug out the big army type spot lamp, gave it a very quick coat of black and hung it off the front with a bit of welding wire... Yep, just the ticket and about the right size compared to the fuel tank This bracket used to hold the front bodywork/bull bar but not only was it not needed it also looked ugly! So it was cut out and replaced by some more steel tube.. That looks better The front two tubes were left open from the factory which didn't look right, so I extended them down into a point.. Much better.. The welds will be ground down when MadTrax goes back up on the bench. The big lamp was mounted using a bracket at the top which bolts onto the head stock. And a smaller one at the bottom which will look better with a little trimming to shape. And that chaps brings this build thread up to date again other than I like the look from this angle sooo much I'm going to put the pic up again

I not surprised you managed to pull it on freshly mowed grass on the flat, the wheelhorse will come into its own up hill across a ploughed field.
