    Big O&R display

So Jim (usedtoolman) and I got together Saturday at a local antique engine show (Straw Hollow) and displayed part of our O&R collections together. I think Jim had around 20 tools and I had about 25. Both of us have more than this but it's just way too much hassle to bring everything. Who knows, maybe one day we can do a bigger one with everything we have. Jim's much nicer display! He has some really nice stuff. And my crappy display. No pics of my ugly mug! And kind of a shot of both And here is some other stuff that was at the show

Whilst you were all enjoying yourselves at rpt, I took some time away from diy and plumbing to have a go at something I've been thinking of for a few years. wheel horses don't shift gear on the move well, and often you might need to slow down a bit for some power, or speed up. so with the idea of Powershift on the old internationals I spent about 12 hours at the lathe and came up with this. A split pulley system allowing a 20% increase in speed at the pull of a lever. So that's 12 forward speeds - and another gear lever to find a place for. Of course if the system works... hopefully get get to have another look when I get home on Friday.

    Wheel Horse finishing the driveway

Finished the driveway weed removal and gravel redistribution. Wow, that's a long driveway. Most of the weed removal was accomplished by hand and hoe, glad to finally get some seat time on the D160

    Allis 716H deck rebuild

The middle spindle bearing were shot (an understatement), the others are probably worn badly as well. I got thee center spindle out and apart ready to install the new bearings. This is my fourth deck, the Bolens 1256 1476, and Wheel Horse D160 decks are done, I'll be making one good Allis deck out of the other two parts decks I have as well. That should give me ten running tractors with decks. and I have two more coming up in the queue to get decks under them, The Homelite T16H is running and has a good deck under her, I just need to finish the rear lift rod. The CASE 224 needs reassembled and the deck is already completely restored

We have owned a Cub Cadet 100 for a few years after saving it from being turned into a racing lawn mower The tractor actually belongs to my better half Wendy who lets me drive it occasionally Here's some photos of its outings this year, Nutley Windmill, Smallholders Show and Rural Past Times so far, Tractorfest next weekend and then it hibernates for the Winter !!

Wheel Horse D-160 on Driveway Duty

My Wheel Horse D-160 was enlisted to clean up edges and redistribute gravel from the crown to the ruts. Using the blade on an angle took care of the grass and edges. Starting with a path down the middle to pull down the crown it allowed gravel to fall into the ruts. I paid 330.00 for the box blade, 100.00 for the front blade, and 400 for the tractor. The front wheels are 3.75-10 steel wheels with a 4 ply 5.30-10 tire with tubes on a 4 on 4 cast iron trailer axle. The rears are 7.5-15 inch 5 bolt Wheel Horse rims with a 27x9.50-15 Duro Frontier tire. I could load the box blade clear to the top and still maintain half speed.

    Bolens 1256, earning her keep

I got the newly restored 42" mower deck under the Bolens 1256. Not to others, install the stub shaft on the deck before you put it under the tractor, you will save time and skin. I rebent the rear lift rod so it could hook to the front attachment pin for the front blade and snowblower lift. By doing so the rear lift goes up when the mower deck goes down, I don't know if it works that way on the other pin to the mower deck, man she mows smooth

    Cub Cadet 128

Amongst our collection of various machines we have three Wheelhorses and up until yesterday one Cub Cadet, a model 100... Looking on a certain website I spotted this machine, Wendy my better half was keen on bidding for it, so bid I duly did... It's a Cub Cadet 128, with a 12hp Kohler, these tractors were made between 1971 and 1974 so I need to have a look at the spec plate... It needs a few bits like proper front wheels and the steering sorted out but I think with a bit of graft it could be quite a machine...

    C-120 refurb.

Well things had a good testing at Rural Past Times. Things went OK, except I broke the latch again. This gave a problem when for traveling around. The plough was scraping on the ground. So the last hole in the clevis was used. I had to do a bit of modification to the hitch with a hacksaw borrowed off The Showman. Sometimes the plough would stay up without the latch and sometimes not. I got round that problem by keeping an eye on the plough and raising it if it started to lower. As for ploughing things went well. The plough going in enough to turn the ground over. The actuator lifted the plough out without any problem. I must say I'm quite pleased with things so far. Even with only my second attempt at trying to be a ploughman.

    Teles Clipper Hedge Trimmer

Seems that the Teles Hedge Trimmer maybe based on the Gibson Hedge Clipper, which is featured in the January 1963 edition of Desert Magazine on page 9, a pdf is available from the swdeserts.com archive here; http://www.swdeserts.com/index_htm_files/196301-DesertMagazine-1963-January.pdf And it was also available in the US as the Paramount Hedge Trimmer, picture taken from ebay. rural pastimes 2016 day 2

I have just got home after a very long journey back. Well worth the trip and I really enjoyed the day. it was great to meet everyone from the forum especially people I have not met befor; Norm, Andrew, Nigel, Ian and Paul. I would like to echo what others have said by thanking The Showman for his fantastic work organising our section of the event. Also thanks to Ian for letting me drive his GT14 around the arena, and to Nigel, Chris and The showman for letting my lad Joseph and I drive machines in the working area. Iain
